Slippery Rock men lose, women beat Mansfield
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock men's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 74-71 loss to Mansfield Sunday afternoon.
The Rock held a 20-11 early lead, before Mansfield rallied to take a 45-40 halftime advantage.
Slippery Rock came back to tie the contest in the second half on a jump shot by Corey Nesser with 9:20 remaining 66-66 and took the lead 70-66 on a 3-point shot by Matt Schaeffer.
Mansfield regained the lead with 48 seconds remaining and held off The Rock.
Slippery Rock had four players in double figures led by Matt Hale and Jamar Scales with 16 points each, while Erroll Robinson added 11 and Schaefer scored 10.
Hale also had a team-high six rebounds, five steals and dished out four assists as The Rock fell to 1-5 on the season. Mansfield improved to 4-1.
Women
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Amanda Chojnacki scored 17 points to lead Slippery Rock past Mansfield, 63-55.
Angela Greaser added 13 points, going 3-for-4 on 3-pointers.
Chojnacki also had a team-high six rebounds and three steals, while Amber McFeely dished out six assists for The Rock (5-3).
Mansfield (4-2) was led by Alison Tagliaferri who had a game-high 20 points and also added 15 rebounds as Mansfield outrebounded The Rock 36-26.
