Fire damages store in Southington

SOUTHINGTON -- Four fire departments helped Southington firefighters battle a blaze Sunday morning at Hurd's, a convenience store at 4378 state Route 534, a Trumbull County Sheriff's spokesman said.
He said the blaze broke out shortly after 6 a.m. and the last unit cleared the scene at about 10:15 a.m. There were no injuries reported, and no cause for the fire in the two-story wood frame building has been announced.
Departments assisting were from the townships of Champion, Braceville, Warren and Bazetta. An "air truck" from the Air Force Reserve Base in Vienna also responded and refilled the firefighters' air tanks, the spokesman said. The Red Cross was also on hand.
