Three jaguar cubs born at Akron Zoo

AKRON -- Three jaguar cubs were born at the Akron Zoo in October, and all three are doing well, according to a news release from the zoo.
Jaguars are listed as an endangered species by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. There are fewer than 100 jaguars in the United States at accredited zoos.
The cubs, all females, were born Oct. 4. It is the first time that either the mother, Naom, or father, Chack, have reproduced.
One of the cubs did not nurse and appeared weak. It has been taken from the mother and is being hand-raised by the zoo's chief veterinarian.
The zoo hasn't yet determined when the three cubs will be put on display. A public naming contest will be announced shortly.
This is not the first jaguar birth at the Akron Zoo. In 1985, a jaguar named Maxwell was born at the zoo, and later moved to the Cincinnati Zoo.
