IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Cappie Pondexter scored a season-high 26 points to lead Rutgers in the opening round of the Hawkeye Challenge. Pondexter's 3-pointer with Rutgers trailing 53-52 triggered a 14-2 run that put the Spartans away. Matee Ajavon had 15 points and Essence Carson and Michelle Campbell had 10 apiece for the Scarlet Knights (4-0), who shot 45 percent and forced 17 turnovers . Lamisha Augustine had 18 points and Amber Jackson had 13 for San Jose State (2-2). Rutgers advanced to today's championship game against host Iowa, a 79-57 winner over Vermont.
No. 20 Oklahoma 107, Oral Roberts 76
STILLWATER, Okla. -- Erin Higgins scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half to help Oklahoma pull away against Oral Roberts at the Bertha Teague Classic. Coming out of a timeout called by Oklahoma coach Sherri Coale, Higgins sparked a 20-3 run with a 3-pointer from the left wing. Courtney Paris, who fouled out three minutes into the second half, finished with 19 points. Leah Rush had 16 and Ashley Paris added 15 for Oklahoma (7-1), which has won 18 in a row against Oral Roberts. Rachel Balzer scored 20 to lead the Golden Eagles (3-2), who made the NCAA tournament last season as the Mid-Continent Conference champion. Oklahoma's 107 points were the most since a 113-72 win against Baylor on Dec. 30, 1991.
No. 25 Utah 63, Loyola Marymount 47
SALT LAKE CITY -- Kim Smith had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Utah. Shona Thorburn added 14 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Utes (4-1). Bianca Ziemann led the Lions (1-5) with 13 points and four rebounds.
No 10 Minnesota 78, Nebraska 70
MINNEAPOLIS -- Jamie Broback scored a season-high 22 points to lead Minnesota. Liz Podominick added 15 points to help Minnesota (5-1) rebound from a 62-44 loss at New Mexico on Wednesday night. Kiera Hardy led Nebraska (2-3) with 22 points.
