Monday morning QB questions Cowher's decision

I always wanted to be a Monday morning quarterback and do a little second-guessing of high-priced NFL coaches.
My thoughts have been drifting back to last Monday night's encounter between the Steelers and the Indianapolis Colts. That showing, by far, was the worst performance turned in by the Steelers this season.
It may have trouble measuring up to one of those Midget League contests.
What was he thinking?
Bill Cowher has made some questionable calls in the past but the one he made to begin the second half Monday was one for the books.
With the Steelers on the short end of a 16-7 score, Cowher opened the second half play by attempting, of all things, an onside kick, one that blew the Steelers right out the window of any comeback hopes.
The Colts took possession on the Steelers' 40 and moved quickly for another score.
Granted, if the onside kick had worked, Cowher would have been a genius. But it didn't even come close.
Big Ben Roethlisberger didn't have one of his finest nights, and the Steelers' so-called powerful running game took the night off.
It just wasn't the time or the place to attempt an onside kick.
On the Mark
It didn't take long for Mark DeMonaco to send Westminster College basketball statisticians scurrying to the record books.
The Titans senior guard launched the 2005-06 campaign by draining 28 points in the Titans' 129-125 victory over Delaware Valley. That point total sent the young standout to a career total of 1,020 points as he became the 32nd player in Titan history to reach 1,000.
Then DeMonaco scored 33 points in a losing effort against Pitt-Bradford, 121-109. He also came up with a team-high six steals.
DeMonaco is from New Castle High.
And the leaders are ...
There's still a long ways to go but the Washington & amp; Jefferson College men and the Grove City College women hold narrow leads in the race for the 2005-06 Presidents' Athletic Conference All-Sports Trophy.
The all-sports trophies are awarded to the schools which perform the best across the board in league competition.
The men's race has W & amp;J riding second-place finishes in cross country, football, and soccer for 18 points. Grove City, which captured both the cross country and soccer titles, is in second with 17 points. They are followed by Thiel (11), Westminster (11), Bethany (9), Waynesburg (9), and Thomas More (8).
On the women's side, Grove City captured PAC crowns in cross country and tennis for 23 points. Waynesburg is second with 20, followed by W & amp;J (18), Thomas More (15), Westminster (15), Bethany (14) and Thiel (6).
Critics silenced
Where are all those people who were crying for Joe Paterno's scalp several months ago? I don't hear much about that situation anymore, especially since the Nittany Lions knocked off Ohio State, and then a little later, Michigan State, to claim Big Ten championship honors.
Right now, the Nittany Lions are right up in there, rubbing elbows with the top two teams in the nation, USC and Texas.
After PSU's most recent win, an announcer caught Paterno leaving the field. "Where are all those people who were screaming for your resignation earlier this year?" she asked. "I don't know and I don't care," Paterno answered.
End of story.
