NEW CASTLE -- To her list of published works, New Castle resident Pearl Early Young adds her poem, "Modern Christmas," which appears in the November-December issue of Country Woman magazine, now on newsstands. Young, a teacher's assistant for Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, has previously been published in the New Castle News and has an anthology, "The Colors of Life."
Faith manual's authorto sign books at diner
YOUNGSTOWN -- Keith A. Spann, creator of the "Faith Clinic Manual," will hold a book signing from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Pettway Diner, across the street from St. Elizabeth Medical Center on Belmont Avenue.
Spann's "Faith Clinic Manual" is a study book of lessons from which the Lord inspired him to build his Faith Clinic Ministry. Spann includes these lessons along with worksheets in his newly-released third book, "Faith Is Not Just Beating the Air" (Globe Printing), which is a revision of the original manual. The story of how he was led to create his ministry and manual is detailed in two previous books, "With The Odds Stacked Against Me" (Faith Publishing,1998) and "Overcoming the Odds: Revelations and Warnings" (Globe Printing, 2003).
Spann began preaching at age 15. In January 1981, he was ordained an elder at Nevels Temple Church of God in Christ, where he has served for nearly 25 in numerous capacities including as junior church pastor and Sunday school instructor. A mainstream devotional leader in the local church and on the state level, he also guest-lectures at many churches across the country.

Library compiles list of best children's books
WARREN -- "Books for Holiday Giving and Year-Round Enjoyment," a list of more than 100 recommended children's book titles, is available at all Warren-Trumbull County Public Library locations just in time for holiday shopping.
The list is annotated and divided into various categories: infants and toddlers; preschoolers and young readers; older readers; crafts, hobbies and activities; history and biography; science and nature; poetry, music and art; and seasonal selections.
In addition, there is a list of perennial favorites for all ages: classic reading and series book of enduring popularity.
Many of these books will be on display in the Children's Department at the Main Library during December.

Borders, Walden Booksteam up with First Book
WARREN -- First Book, an award-winning national nonprofit organization that provides new books to children in need, has teamed up with Borders Inc. and Walden Book Co. Inc. to launch a new holiday fund-raising campaign.
Through Dec. 15, customers at all Borders and Waldenbooks stores will be encouraged to donate $1 or more to First Book as they make their holiday purchases.
Borders Group initiated the giving campaign with a $50,000 commitment to First Book. All funds raised will be converted to gift cards and distributed to First Book local advisory boards to spend on books.
First Book-Trumbull County will benefit from donations made at Trumbull County retail locations.
