AUSTINTOWN -- St. Joseph Church adult choir will present a contemporary service of lessons and carols titled "Emmanuel, God with Us," at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at the church, 4545 New Road. Seasonal music and hymns will accompany Scripture readings on the Christmas story.
Afternoon of spirituality
WARREN -- The Benedictine Sisters of the Byzantine Church at Queen of Heaven Monastery, 8640 Squires Lane N.E., will offer an afternoon of spirituality from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 17. The Rev. David J. Shortt, pastor of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church and administrator of St. George Byzantine Catholic Church, both in Youngstown, will speak on "The Incarnation of Christ: Coming for the Salvation of All." Rosary cenacle
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., and the Queen of the Holy Rosary prayer group will hold a rosary cenacle at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Refreshments will follow in the social hall.
Musical presentation
WARREN -- "Christ is Born," a musical presentation, will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 10 and 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at First Assembly of God, 2640 Parkman Road. Admission is free; a nursery will be provided. A hearing-impaired ministry is offered.
Pearl Harbor Day Mass
YOUNGSTOWN -- Lt. Frederick Kahn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1423 will hold its 64th annual Pearl Harbor Day Mass at 10 a.m. Dec. 11 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 421 Covington St. Participating posts should assemble at 9:30 a.m. in the cafeteria. Refreshments will follow.

Drive-through nativity
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- King's Chapel United Methodist Church, Old Pulaski Road and Wallace Drive, will present its 12th annual drive-through nativity from 6 to 9 p.m. today and Sunday. Eleven scenes, featuring live actors and animals, will depict the events leading up to the birth of Christ. The presentation is free. For information, call (724) 658-7569.
Coffee and contemplation
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- Coffee and contemplation is planned from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Villa Maria Retreat Center. Sister Marguerite Holz of the Villa Maria Retreat Team will share time in reflection and prayer to discover the gifts St. Nicholas brings to the Advent and Christmas season. YOUNGSTOWN -- A service of healing, including communion, is planned at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave. A part of the service is the "laying on of hands" with a suitable prayer.
Bishop to preach
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bishop John G. Innis, resident bishop of the United Methodist Church in Liberia, will preach at a service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 30 W. Front St. His topic will be "Risk of Love." He is the author of "By the Goodness of God, an Autobiography of John G. Innis."
Festival Eucharist
BOARDMAN -- St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., will observe the feast day of St. Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, at 7 p.m. Tuesday with a Festival Eucharist. A party will follow the service. Children should take a shoe to be filled with treats. Donations of hats, scarves and gloves will be accepted for the parish's food bank in Salineville. Veterans of the Navy, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine will be honored and are asked to attend in uniform. Also recognized will be the Episcopal church's Seaman's Institute.

COLUMBIANA -- "The Paradox of Choice" will be the topic presented by Jay Clarke at 6 p.m. Sunday at Zion Hill Church of the Brethren, 14550 New Buffalo Road. He is a lifetime member of Zion Hill and also a member of Southern Gospel Quartet.
Christmas musical
WASHINGTONVILLE -- A Christmas musical, "Emmanuel, Celebrating Heaven's Child," will be presented at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at Robbins United Methodist Church, 100 High St. Refreshments will follow in the fellowship hall.
