Brad Bowman's play is crucial in Thiel's victory



Beating the Ohio Northern women marked the first time Mount Union won five straight since 1999.
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel College junior guard Brad Bowman (Ursuline High) finished with 21 points, six blocks and five rebounds in the Tomcats' 88-72 victory over Lancaster Bible College Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Thiel (1-3) shot a season-best 48.7 percent (38-for-78) from the field and knocked down seven-for-22 from 3-point range. The Tomcats also forced 30 turnovers by Lancaster Bible (4-8).
Sophomore forward Joe Herrmann (Linesville) added 16 points, six rebounds and three steals for the Tomcats.
Ryan Carpenter, Drew Karshner and Tim Feliciano each had 20 points for Lancaster Bible.
Ohio Northern 89Mount Union 63
ADA -- Greg Badenhop scored 20 points and Kyle Gehle finished with 18 as Ohio Northern toppled Mount Union.
Badenhop made 5 of 9 3-point attempts and had three steals. Bart Hostetler scored 12 points and Nate Lieb 10 for the Polar Bears (5-0, 1-0 Ohio Conference), who shot 57 percent from the field.
Chris Switzer led the Purple Raiders (1-5, 0-1) with 18 points. Kyle Karpinski finished with 12 and Eric Fender had 10 points and six rebounds.
East Stroudsburg 74Slippery Rock 68
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Rock fell to 1-4 on the season after bowing to East Strougsburg (4-1).
Slippery Rock held a 36-33 halftime lead. Joseph Vines led The Rock with 15 points, while Jamar Scales added 13.
Ohio Wesleyan 83, Hiram 58
HIRAM --Hiram suffered it's third straight defeat bowing to Ohio Wesleyan.
Sophomore Chuck Williams (Cortland/Lakeview) led the Terriers in scoring with 14 points. Seniors Rick Baldwin (Youngstown/Boardman) and A.J. White (Englewood, FL/Lemon Bay), pictured, were next with 11 points each.
White led in rebounds with seven, followed by sophomore Michael McDevitt (Lisbon/Lisbon David Anderson) with five.
Allegheny 77, Kenyon 68
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny College evened its season record to 3-3 by beating Kenyon College.
Matt Majzik led the Gators with 18 points, while Casey McCloskey added 16.

NEW WILMINGTON -- Case Western Reserve University sophomore forward Ashley Horton (Akron Hoban High) recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with a team-high 18 points and game-high 11 rebounds, as the Spartans' women snapped a two-game losing streak with a 73-51 win over Westminster College Saturday afternoon for a 4-2 record.
Westminster (0-6) was led by Emilee Ackerman's game-high 19 points while Terese Marszalek contributed 16. Nicole Fee (Neshannock) added five points, Rachel Eaton (Rimersburg Union) and Talley Felger (Springfield) four each and Desiree Sterling (Newton Falls) three.
Slippery Rock 59East Stroudsburg 40
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock cruised past previously unbeaten East Stroudsburg to improve to 4-3 on the season.
Amanda Chojnacki led The Rock with 12 pints, while former Lowellville High standout Amanda Nero chipped in with seven points.
Manchester 64, Grove City 62
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City's comeback effort fell short against Manchester, Ind.
The Wolverines, who trailed 38-22 at halftime pulled to within 61-58 with 3:29 remaining, but couldn't get any closer. Grove City fell to 2-4 on the year.
Mount Union 64Ohio Northern 49
ALLIANCE -- Mount Union improved to 5-1, 1-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and defeating Ohio Northern (2-2).
Alicia Williams led the Raiders with 19 points, while Kyla Hogan added 14 and Lauren Friedrich scored 11.
It marked the first time Mount Union had won five straight games since 1999.
Guilford 64, Thiel 46
SALISBURY, Md. -- Thiel College fell to Guilford College Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Salisbury University Optimist Classic.
The Tomcats (1-6) hit just 25.0 percent (17-68) of their field goals in the defeat. Junior forward Fontella Jones (Farrell/Farrell) and freshman forward Amber Bodrick (Boardman, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) each had 14 points and eight rebounds.
Ohio Wesleyan 82, Hiram 69
HIRAM -- Hiram dropped to 1-2 on the season after falling to Ohio Wesleyan.
Junior Cassie Bedard (Randolph/Waterloo) led all scorers with 19 points, including 7-7 from the line. Junior Tania Carman (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights), pictured, scored 16 points and made four steals.
First-year Stephanie Zunic (Canfield/Canfield) and junior Michelle Kozempa (Seven Hills/Normandy) each had five rebounds.
Geneva 82, Ursuline 61
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Geneva posted its second victory and first conference win against Ursuline College.
Jen Rawding led the Golden Tornadoe (2-2) with 19 points while Ali Cananzi added 13.
Bethany 93, Methodist 83
BETHANY, W.Va. -- Jenny Place (Farmdale/Badger) recorded a double-double to help Bethany past Methodist College.
Place, a senior, scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and also had seven steals. Lisa Mitchell added a career-high 22 points for the Bisons (2-6).
Kenyon 64, Allegheny 58
GAMBIER -- Allegheny College dropped its conference opener against Kenyon.
Katie Kestler led the Gators (2-4) with 17 points, while the Lords (7-0) were led by Anne Dugan with 18.
