Writing contest to be based on Irish history and music



Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians is sponsoring an Irish history writing contest to be held in every state where there is an established division of the organization.
The contest will be divided into two categories. The first will be for those in grades 6, 7 and 8, who will be asked to write no less than 500 or more than 1,000 double-spaced words about "The Influence of Irish Music on Country Western Music."
The second division will be for those in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, who will be asked to submit between 750 and 1,500 double-spaced words on "The Irish Language: Past, Present and Future."
Area entries must be submitted by Jan. 2 to Sally Murphy Pallante, 5480 Mission Hills Drive, Canfield, Ohio 44406.
Five entries from each level will be selected by qualified judges and sent to the county, state and national chairpersons for final judging.
Prizes to be awarded are as follows: high-school entries, $1,000 first prize; $500 second and $250, third; and elementary-school entries, $500 first, $250 second and $125 third.
