Horse killed when car crashes into buggy
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Bethel-New Wilmington Road was closed for nearly two hours after a head-on crash between a car and an Amish buggy.
Pennsylvania State Police said the horse was killed, but the buggy driver and motorist survived.
According to police, Paul C. Edmiston, 53, of North Market Street, New Wilmington, was traveling south when he crossed into the opposite lane and hit the buggy head on at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the buggy driver, Paul J. Byler, 30, of Vance Road, New Wilmington, was thrown from the buggy and landed in a nearby field.
Edmiston's 1996 Chevrolet Sedan pushed the buggy 278 feet.
The horse was killed and ended up under the car's rear wheels.
Edmiston, who had to be extricated from the car, was taken to Sharon Regional Hospital for treatment.
