Vehicular assault
LISBON -- A Wellsville woman has been sentenced to 60 days in the Columbiana County Jail for striking a pedestrian with her car.
Minda K. Bess, 49, of Broadway, was found guilty of vehicular assault, a fourth-degree felony.
Common Pleas Court Judge David Tobin placed Bess on probation for four years Thursday, fined her $1,500, assessed her $3,161 in damages and ordered her to perform 40 hours of community service.
Bess was indicted after her car struck Jenna Welch as she got out of her car on Broadway in 2004.
Assistant County Prosecutor John Gamble said the two women lived only a few doors apart. Bess, who was legally intoxicated, drove home but eventually walked back to the scene of the accident.
The passenger-side mirror of Bess' car shattered, and cut and scarred Welch's lower torso.
