Boy is hospitalized after fall into ravine

LOWELLVILLE -- A boy was taken by helicopter ambulance to a Youngstown hospital after falling about 30 feet into a ravine.
Fire Chief William Meehan said his department and fire departments from Coitsville and Western Reserve Joint Fire District responded when a group of teens were walking on the wall of a dam off of Quarry Road Thursday afternoon and one of the boys fell off, landing on concrete below.
Meehan said a tactical team from Youngstown Fire Department also stood by.
The boy, Michael Pruitt, was flown to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was listed in guarded condition Thursday evening. Authorities said he was conscious and talking when he was transported.
His age wasn't available although authorities believe the boy is in his early teens.
The rough terrain of the area and the steep ravine presented difficulties in getting the boy out, which is why other departments were called in, the chief said. Meehan said it took about 45 minutes to rescue the boy from the ravine.
