YOUNGSTOWN -- Philip M. Zell's sixth conviction for driving while under the influence has resulted in a six-month prison sentence. Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge R. Scott Krichbaum also sentenced Zell, 44, of Glenwood Avenue in Boardman, to an additional 120 days in a local jail, five years' probation with the stipulation that he completes a drug counseling program, five years' license suspension and fines. Zell also will relinquish his vehicle. Zell's five previous DUIs were from 1990 to 2002.
Author to speak
BOARDMAN -- A nationally known author and lecturer on nutrition will speak on his latest book, "Disease-Proof Your Child" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Market Street Elementary School.
The Boardman Council PTA is sponsoring the event.
Dr. Joel Fuhrman will share his knowledge, research and practical techniques with parents for creating positive lifestyle changes in families to fight obesity and other childhood diseases without medication.

Flu shots available
BOARDMAN -- The Mahoning County District Board of Health will be administering flu shots to adults and children from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 8. at the Clear Channel Studios, 7461 South Ave.
The cost for the flu shot is $15. Pneumonia shots, at a cost of $40 for adults, also will be available. No appointment is necessary. People on traditional Medicare must bring their Medicare card so the cost of the shots can be billed. Those on Medicaid must bring their Medicaid card.
Aggregation grows
WARREN -- Warren and Liberty have been admitted to The Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council's electric and natural gas aggregation programs, making customers there eligible for energy discounts beginning Jan. 1, 2007. Voters in both communities approved aggregation. NOPEC's general assembly voted unanimously Tuesday to admit Warren and Liberty, expanding NOPEC to 118 communities in nine counties. NOPEC, the nation's largest public energy aggregation, will add a ninth member to its board of directors to represent Trumbull County. The new member hasn't been chosen yet.
Counterfeit money
AUSTINTOWN -- Two more cases of counterfeit money have cropped up at township businesses.
An employee received a counterfeit 20-dollar bill at the Get Go at 5163 Mahoning Ave. around 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to police. The Get Go previously reported someone passed two fake 20-dollar bills there Nov. 21.
At the Pilot on 1150 N. Canfield-Niles Road, a man passed two fake 100-dollar bills Sunday. The manager learned they were counterfeit when she tried to deposit them in a bank, police said.
Fire damages residence
YOUNGSTOWN -- A fire that started on the back porch of 2012 Pointview Ave. around 12:07 a.m. Wednesday spread to the second floor and did roughly $10,000 damage, the fire department said. Firefighters detected an odor of gasoline in the house. A neighbor saw the fire about 10 minutes after he heard tires screeching. The renter told firefighters that he has a "beef" with someone.
Budget discussions set
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- City council will hold budget discussions Tuesday and Dec. 20 immediately after its scheduled work sessions. Work sessions are 7:30 p.m. at the City Building, 230 N. Jefferson St. Budget sessions are for the purpose of preparing the city's 2006 general operating budget.
Man gets prison term
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jason R. Fonseca, 27, of South Jackson Street, will serve three years in prison for hitting his ex-girlfriend, with whom he has two children. Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge R. Scott Krichbaum on Tuesday sentenced Fonseca, who previously pleaded guilty to one count of domestic violence. A second count of felonious assault had been dismissed. Fonseca received three years' probation in 2002 for domestic violence against the same woman, and another three years' probation in 2003 for carrying a concealed weapon after he threatened her with a gun. Fonseca also received a 30-day jail sentence in 2004 for domestic violence against his wife.
