Denison 58, Grove City 47
GRANVILLE -- Denison (5-1) jumped out to a 22-2 lead and held on for a 58-47 victory over Grove City (1-3) in non-conference action Wednesday. Sophomore forward Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool/Beaver Local) led the Wolverines with 19 points on 9-for-12 shooting while senior guard Tammy Hess (Vintondale, Pa./United) added nine points. Carolyn Simpson led Denison with 12 points. The Big Red forced 30 Grove City turnovers. Denison out-rebounded Grove City, 31-27. McCoy led all players with seven rebounds.
Mount Union 52, Westminster 38
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Westminster College women's basketball team fell to 0-4 on the season tonight at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium as Mount Union (4-1) spoiled the Titans' home opener. Mount Union was paced by center Alicia Williams, who recorded game-high totals of 16 points and 14 rebounds in the victory. Westminster was led by sophomore guard Emilee Ackerman with a team-high 13 points while junior guard Desiree Sterling (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) added 10 markers in the loss. Sophomore forward Terese Marszalek and junior forward Talley Felger (Petersburg/Springfield) grabbed eight and seven rebounds. The Titans will look for their first win of the season on Friday when Westminster hosts Manchester (Ind.) at 6 p.m.
Hiram 60, Chatham 52
PITTSBURGH -- Junior Cassie Bedard posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Michelle Kozempa also posted a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while recording four blocks. Juniors Tania Carman and Abbey Gorby (East Palestine) each grabbed eight rebounds. The Terriers (1-1) host Ohio Wesleyan University in the home opener Saturday at 1 p.m.
Allegheny 71, Bethany 60
BETHANY, W.Va. -- Bethany cut a nine-point second-half deficit to one but could not complete the comeback at Hummel Field House. Leading the way for the Bison was Jenny Place (Badger High), who scored 23 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds and had a career-high six steals. Senior Renee Shehady was the only other Bison (1-5) in double digits, as she totaled 16 markers and gave out seven assists. The Bison return to the court this weekend, when they host their 14th annual Holiday Tournament. Ohio Dominican University and Methodist (N.C.) College play in the first game Friday at 6 p.m., with the Bison taking on Alma (Mich.) College in the nightcap at 8 p.m. The consolation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday and the championship game will tip off around 3 p.m.

Case Western Reserve 101, Hiram 87
CLEVELAND, OHIO -- Senior Rick Baldwin (Boardman) scored 29 points, but Hiram lost to Case Western Reserve. TC Spencer was next with 21 points. Brandon Pool added 14 points and A.J. White scored 10 points. First-year Ian Pfouts led in rebounds with seven, followed by Spencer and Pool, who each grabbed five. The Terriers (0-2) host Ohio Wesleyan University in the home opener Saturday at 3 p.m.
Grove City 75, Medaille 68
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Five Grove City (1-3) players scored in double figures as the visiting Wolverines earned a victory over Medaille at the Sullivan Center. Sophomore guard Shawn Carr (New Castle/Mohawk) fired in a team-high 16 points, including three three-point goals. He also pulled in a career-high nine rebounds. Freshman guard Ryan Gibson and freshman forward Daniel Zacour each scored 12 points off the bench while sophomore guards Ryan Gerber and Joe Capotosta each scored 11. The Wolverines will host Juniata Monday at 7 p.m.
Bethany 93, Ohio U.-Eastern 60
WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- One night after upsetting Division II Wheeling Jesuit University, Bethany (4-3) raced to a 14-point halftime lead and cruised in the second night of the Wendy's Classic at West Liberty State College. Treys by sophomore guard Brody Jackson, senior guard Josh Polantz and junior guard Marc Palermo (Youngstown/Ursuline) propelled Bethany to a 15-4 advantage six minutes into the game. Senior forward Matt Drahos paced the Bethany attack with 21 points and 12 rebounds, his second double-double in the last three games. Joining Drahos and Jackson in double figures was Palermo and Polantz, who each scored 11, while senior Mike Drahos registered eight points and 12 boards.
