Chorale concert
SHARON, Pa. -- The 100-member Shenango Valley Chorale will present its annual Christmas concert, "Christmas with the Chorale," on Dec. 9 in New Wilmington Presbyterian Church, 229 S. Market St., New Wilmington, and Dec. 10 in First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St., Sharon.
Portions of the Chorale's two Christmas concerts, under the direction of Edgar S. Groves, will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra and Chorale accompanist Tina Greig. The Christmas concerts also include performances by the Youngstown Fine Arts Brass and the Shenango Area Youth Chorus.
Tickets for the Christmas concerts, available from chorale members and at the door, are $6 for adults and $4 for children and students. Tickets are still available for performances of An Olde English Feaste by the Chorale's Madrigal Singers Thursday through Sunday at Tara Inn in Clark. The cost is $45 per person or $350 for a table of eight. For reservations, call (724) 699-6948.
Carols and Cocoa
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University will present an Evening of Holiday Festivity, including the traditional Carols and Cocoa and the performance of Handel's oratorio "Messiah," on Wednesday at Stambaugh Auditorium.
Carols and Cocoa will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature the YSU Trombone Ensemble, under the direction of Michael Crist of Poland; The University Chorus and Dana Chorale, directed by Hae-Jong Lee of Poland; and the Dana Flute Ensemble, directed by Kathryn Thomas Umble of Poland. Cocoa and Christmas cookies will be provided.
The "Messiah" performance will begin at 8 p.m. and will feature the Dana Symphony Orchestra and the Dana Symphonic Choir (the combined choir of Dana Chorale and University Chorus), conducted by Lee.
The performance will present the ever-popular "Hallelujah" chorus and the entire first part of "Messiah." Patrons are invited to bring their own "Messiah" score and sing along to the "Hallelujah" chorus at the end of the performance.
The admission is free for YSU students, $2 for senior citizens and students, and $5 for adults. Cost includes both concerts.
Boar's Head Feaste
Tickets are still available for the Dec. 9 and 10 performances of Tapestries' 10th annual Boar's Head Feaste. The dinner shows begin at 6:30 p.m. and feature the 12-voice group in period costume with harp, lute, recorder ensemble and trumpet fanfares.
