INDIANAPOLIS -- Junior defensive specialist Amanda Cindric (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named Horizon League defensive player of the week.
Cindric helped the Penguins to a 2-1 record, finishing with 71 digs and averaging 5.46 digs per game. She tallied a career-high 30 digs in a five-game win over Canisius and collected 28 digs in another five-game victory over Robert Morris just prior to the Golden Griffins match.
In the opening match of the Akron Early Bird Invitational, Cindric posted 13 digs in a three-game loss to the Zips.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Guard Kira Mowen of Waynesboro, Pa. has transferred to YSU from Illinois.
Mowen (5-foot-9) appeared in 10 games over two seasons for the Illini. In 2004-05, Mowen appeared in six games and scored 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor and played in four games during the 2003-04 campaign.
Mowen will have to sit out the 2005-06 season and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Mowen is the second all-time leading scorer at Waynesboro High with 1,259 career points. She also grabbed 538 rebounds and had 300 assists.

Former area residentsstrong in tennis
Two former Poland residents are making their name in high school tennis in Oklahoma.
Amy Sheets, who graduated from Deer Creek High, played No. 1 singles for four years and her brother, David, a sophomore, plays No. 1 singles for the boys tennis team.
Deer Creek has a program that continues ranked at the top of the state's rankings.
Amy Sheets was a semifinalist in the state playoffs for four years at No. 1 singles. Last year she was named to the all-state team and was named first team All-Edmond for four years.
She won first place in the regionals for two years and was runner-up twice. She was named MVP of her team, which finished second in the state in Division 3A.
In the USTA of the Missouri Valley, which includes five states, she was ranked in the top 19 in singles.
She will attend the University of Mary Washington (Va.) this fall and play tennis.
As a freshman, David Sheets finished fifth in the state's 3A competition.
They are the children of Craig and Judy (Friend) Sheets, who moved from Poland in 1999.
Grandparents are Howdy and Ellen Friend of Poland and Ernie and Betty Sheetz of Alliance.
Lyell has fight datemoved to September
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jack Loew, the co-manager and trainer for Niles junior middleweight Billy Lyell, announced his fighter was off Wednesday's pro boxing card in Montreal.
Loew and "Tank" DiCioccio, who also manages the Southside Boxing Club pros, felt there was a better fight for Lyell Sept. 17 in Tacoma, Wash.
At the Emerald Green Casino, Lyell (7-2, 2 knockouts) will be in a main event 10-rounder with Seattle junior middleweight Walter Wright (8-1, 4 KOs).
On May 24 Wright won a unanimous decision over Lyell stablemate Darnell Boone, giving the Youngstown middleweight his only professional loss.
Boone (5-1-1, 3 KOs) is still on Wednesday's card at the Metropolis in Montreal against Walad Smichet (12-1-2, 9 KOs) from Montreal by way of Tunisia in an eight-round middleweight bout.

Braves-Cubs trade
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs traded outfielder Todd Hollandsworth to the Atlanta Braves on Monday night for minor league pitchers Todd Blackford and Angelo Burrows.
Hollandsworth will give the Braves a left-handed bat and a reserve outfielder during the rest of the season.
He is a career .299 pinch-hitter.
