PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP Springfield rallies behind McKelvey for two victories



She scored 17 points in the three-game victory over East Palestine.
EAST PALESTINE -- Nora McKelvey scored 17 points, while Christy Warren added 13 points and seven kills to lead Springfield High's volleyball team past East Palestine 17-25, 25-15, 22-20.
Brittany Schriber added nine points and nine kills for the Tigers (2-0).
East Palestine (1-1) was led by Renee Torrence with 19 points and six kills, while Sarah Stewart chipped in with 13 points and Jenn Yokley had nine kills.
East Palestine 25-14-15, South Range 19-25-9
EAST PALESTINE -- Jenn Yokley scored 19 points and Adyson Mascher had 20 assists for East Palestine.
Torrence added 12 spikes for the Bulldogs, while South Range (0-2) was led by Tara Chizmar with nine kills. Anne Semko and Lauren Lotze had three aces each.
Springfield 25-25,Brookfield 17-15
EAST PALESTINE -- Krista Snyder led the Tigers with 13 points and 13 assists, while Meghan McLaughlin added 15 points and three kills. Christy Warren had 12 points and four kills for the winners.
For Brookfield, Andrea Gladis had three kills, six points, six digs and one block while Morgan Bonekovic had three kills, seven digs and two blocks. Taralee Williams had 10 assists.

EAST PALESTINE -- Courtney Christy had eight kills and 10 digs while Morgan Bonekovic contributed eight kills, seven points and nine digs and Taralee Williams compiled 20 assists to lead Brookfield (2-1).
Mineral Ridge 25-25-22-25,Newton Falls 16-16-25-16
MINERAL RIDGE -- Mineral Ridge won its season opener behind Abbey Kiger who scored 14 points, five aces and 11 kills.
Alex Ladd added 12 points with five aces and 29 assists while Rachael Syler chipped in with 13 kills and five blocks.
Newton Falls (0-1) was led by Blaine Chapman with seven points, Kelsy McGregor with five aces and Sasha McGregor with nine kills.
Fitch 25-25-25,Poland 15-14-10
AUSTINTOWN -- Meghan McDermott had six digs, seven kills, four aces and 18 points and Caitlin O'Patchen had eight digs, six kills, five blocks, 13 assists and 12 points for Fitch (1-0). Rachel Ducay added three kills, five blocks and nine points.
For Poland (0-1), Doni Muransky had eight kills, Ashley Conger had 10 assists and Lindsay Delsignore had 18 digs.

NILES -- Alyssa Suckow had 12 points, Laura Ruberto eight digs, Amanda Binion eight points and Karla Durig three blocks to lead Niles (1-0).

BOARDMAN -- April Melquist registered 13 kills and Courtney Schiffauer 10, while Katie Spatara delivered 18 assists and Danielle Williams 14, to pace Boardman (3-0). Salem is 0-1.

WARREN -- Sisters Michelle and Sarah Pelini led Cardinal Mooney to the Steel Valley Conference win.
Michelle Pelini had 14 points, 10 kills, four blocks and 16 digs while Sarah Pelini had 15 points, four aces, six kills, four blocks and 15 digs.
For Harding, Morgan Dowell had five points, five aces, three kills and five blocks, while Jasmine Stringer added six points, 11 kills and two blocks.
