Tours set at Toth gardens

HUBBARD -- The gardens at the home of Rodney and Kay Toth, 5637 W. Liberty St., will be open for public viewing from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 4.
Among the interesting sights are several major gardens that feature dahlias, vegetables and perennials, and also a 40-foot gourd arbor.
Plants of interest on display will include Arundo donax, Kong Mosaic coleus, hybrid squash "Rumbo," Magilla Perilla, Gailardia "Fanfare," Ajania pacifica, Celosia "Fresh Look Red," zinnia "Swizzle" and "Magellan," and walking iris.
Grown in the edible flower garden are the Eyeball Plant, Egg Plant "Easter," "Fairy Tale" and "Bambino," spinach "Malabar," Calendula "Citrus Cocktail," cutting celery "Zwolsche Krul," peppers "Golden Giant II," "Variegated," "Sweet Pickle," "Thai Hot" and "La Paree," and "The Potpourri Pole" planted mostly with "Hyacinth Bean."
"Flower Bow," featuring several varieties of celosia, and the "Wee Cutting Garden" are created by the couple's grandsons, Collin and Connor. Musical entertainment will be presented by Monica Toth Baker.
There is no admission fee and ample parking.
