YOUNGSTOWN -- The Jewish Community Center, 500 Gypsy Lane, will host a weeklong open house "Fall into the JCC" Sept. 6-11.
During the open house week, fitness assessments, aerobics and water exercise classes and preschool enrichment programs will be available free to nonmembers.
New memberships will also be at a special rate during "Fall into the JCC."
Discounts on memberships are also offered to Forum Health employees, local safety forces and Liberty and Girard City School employees.

Program on financial aid
POLAND -- A program geared to students and parents seeking financial support for undergraduate education, "Finding Foundation Support for Your Education," is planned at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Poland Library, 311 S. Main St.
The session, a Grant Center program, will offer a step-by-step approach to finding financial aid. Suggestions on how to identify funders and how to complete the financial aid application process also will be included.
Reservations should be made by calling the main library at (330) 744-8636 and pressing 2 at the phone prompt for "Reference Information."
Man shot in groin
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 42-year-old man with two gunshot wounds was found lying between 850 and 910 Martin Luther King Boulevard at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
According to police reports the man, with a last known address in Cleveland, had been shot twice in the groin.
Reports say officers questioned many of the nearly 50 people in the area and the man, but no one would say who did the shooting.
Officers found nine bullet casings near the man. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Fall foliage bus trip
FOWLER -- The Fowler Township Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Fowler Community Center.

Camp Fire volunteers
CANFIELD -- Camp Fire USA Northeast Ohio Council is seeking volunteers in Ashtabula, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Volunteer opportunities include club leaders, community family club facilitators, recruiters and self-reliance program instructors. The Camp Fire USA council provides training and curriculum for these positions. As a volunteer, you work in your own town, city or neighborhood.
Camp Fire USA will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2010. The council is forming county birthday committees to help plan local events and identify businesses that also will be celebrating 100 years in 2010.
