MAHONING COUNTY | Commissioners meeting Mahoning County Commissioners handled these items Thursday:



Honored two local youths who were winners in a statewide poster contest operated by the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness. Kate Ferstrom, a fifth-grade pupil at Canfield Middle School, won the top state prize for her poster demonstrating ways to stay cool during extreme heat. Nick Perry, a sixth-grader at Boardman Center Middle School, won a regional contest for his poster displaying safety tips on thunder and lightning.
Renewed a contract with the Southside Community Development Corp. to house the county coroner's office at Oakhill Renaissance Place, the former Forum Health Southside Medical Center. The lease will be $3,425.55 per month for five years.
Approved an agreement for the Juvenile Justice Center to use a state grant to pay $1,440 for a recreation program at Camelot Lanes in Boardman.
Approved a $13,200 agreement with Boardman Township to pour two concrete pads and install fencing at recycling drop-off sites at the South Avenue fire station and at the township offices.
Approved an additional $1,600 in a contract with Green Township to expand the operating hours of a recycling drop-off site four to five hours per week.
Approved a $8,369 contract with the Ohio State Patrol for sheriff department access to the Law Enforcement Automated Data Systems, or LEADS system.
Announced that their next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 8 in the commissioners' hearing room at the courthouse.
