BOARDMAN -- The resident of a New England Boulevard home confronted a burglar Saturday afternoon and the intruder fled.
The woman told police that a man entered her house through her front door, which was unlocked. When she asked him who he was and what he was doing there, the man said he was looking for Mike and that he must have the wrong home. He then fled through the house and out a back door.
The man was wearing Latex gloves and carrying a dark duffel bag that appeared empty. The homeowner described the man as white, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, 150 pounds, with dark hair and a scraggly beard.
Nothing was reported missing.
Police noted that a newspaper on the doorstep may have led the man to believe that no one was home.
Charged with arson
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mark Hausch of Covington Street was arrested Monday on an arson charge after being released from Akron Children's Hospital burn unit, said fire Capt. Alvin Ware.
Hausch, 20, is accused of setting fire to 116 Tod Lane on Aug. 13. Ware said Hausch's friend had been evicted from the house. The gasoline used flashed back on Hausch's face, arms and hands, Ware said.
Hausch was to be arraigned today.
Victim transferred
YOUNGSTOWN -- Shooting victim Ronald Justice, 20, of Quinn Street was transferred to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center from St. Elizabeth Health Center, but information about his condition was not available Monday, said Lt. Rod Foley.
Justice was shot in the head around 7 p.m. Saturday. Police found him slumped in the front passenger seat of a car in the 100 block of Clarencedale Avenue.
Justice's brother told police that they had been traveling southbound on Rush Boulevard when a gunman opened fire. The victim's brother said the driver of the car they were in then drove to Clarencedale and left before police arrived, reports show.
Campbell store robbed
CAMPBELL -- Two unidentified men held a victim at gunpoint Saturday night while they stole $446 from the Family Dollar store on Robinson Road before fleeing in a silver car, police said.
The owner told police one of the men, wearing a gray shirt and dark jeans, pulled out a gun. After taking the money, the man punched the owner in the chest and fled.
The second man, wearing a red shirt and jeans, punched a female clerk in the face before fleeing.
Shots fired at house
YOUNGSTOWN -- Thirty-seven photos were taken by police of a shooting scene in the 200 block of East Boston Avenue Sunday afternoon.
Police said more than 20 rounds -- from a 9mm handgun and an assault rifle -- were fired at a house and a 1985 Oldsmobile parked in the driveway.
The 51-year-old resident told police that he and his son were working on cars in the driveway when three people began firing. He said the shooters fled in a green Ford Taurus.
No injuries were reported.
Juvenile arrested
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 16-year-old East Boston Avenue boy caught Sunday evening with a loaded .380-caliber handgun and operating a mini motorcycle without a license told police he was recently placed on probation in juvenile court for either auto theft or receiving stolen property.
The boy was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center to face charges of carrying a concealed weapon and no driver's license.
