Champion school board places renewal levy on November ballot

CHAMPION -- The Champion school board approved placing a 8.10-mill, five-year renewal levy on the November ballot.
The operating levy would raise $1,305,648 a year, officials said.
Board President Linda Ashelman said that a $6 million reduction in state aid prompted the board to put the levy on the ballot.
In other business at its meeting Monday, the board also extended congratulations to the schools' staffs for earning the top ranking of excellent on the State Report Card and for being top district in Trumbull County. It is the only district to achieve an excellent rating more than once, a total of three times, and two years in a row. The middle school also was awarded the Hall of Fame Award for top school in the state.
Board members also announced that:
UThe class of 2005 earned $1,304,478 in scholarships.
USchools Superintendent Pamela Hood had received the Distinguished Educator for Art Education Service Award from the Ohio Art Education Association.
The next board meeting will be Sept. 19 when a committee will be formed to help pass the levy.
Champion Band Night will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the high school.
