Part of General Extrusions roof falls

A 100-foot by 200-foot section of the roof of the General Extrusions Plant on Lake Park Road in Boardman collapsed inside the building during a thunderstorm Saturday afternoon, but there were no injuries, according to township Fire Capt. Brian Barber.
The captain said he wasn't sure why the roof collapsed but said it might have been due to heavy rain associated with the storm.
Boardman Steel was called to evaluate the integrity of the remaining structure, Barber said. The aluminum extrusion plant was in operation when the roof collapsed, he said.
Company officials could not be reached to comment.
In Western Pennsylvania, Lawrence County 911 and state police dispatchers said their centers received numerous calls concerning fallen trees Saturday afternoon along the Pa. Route 18 corridor south of New Castle.
The 911 dispatcher said he didn't know how many people were without power and that it hadn't been determined whether it was tornado or straight-line winds that hit the New Beaver and Wampum areas.
He confirmed that a fire erupted in a house on 12th Street in Bessemer but wasn't sure if lightning caused it.
Bessemer fire officials couldn't be reached because they were away from the station Saturday evening.
