YOUNGSTOWN SLAYING Judge sets multimillion-dollar bonds for two of three suspects in murder

An assistant prosecutor said one defendant is the victim's neighbor.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Multimillion-dollar bonds were set for two of the three men charged with the murder of 66-year-old James Rowles.
Firefighters found Rowles, of 2318 Trussit Ave., in his burning house around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, shot in head. Detective Sgt. Jose Morales said the motive was robbery.
Chuck Hanni, an investigator with the Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office, has said the fire was intentionally set. Ashes, a beagle trained to detect accelerants, alerted to an area between Rowles' dining room and living room.
Rowles' neighbor, James Huff, 21, of Trussit Street, and Jimmy Davenport, 27, of Kensington Avenue were arrested over the weekend and arraigned Monday in municipal court.
Huff is charged with murder and aggravated burglary. Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly set his bond at $2 million.
Bassil Ally, an assistant city prosecutor, told the judge that after the victim was shot, Huff, Davenport and Frederick Rice used bleach to wipe fingerprints from inside the house. Ally said Davenport and Rice later returned to the house and set it on fire.
The judge set Davenport's bond at $3 million. He is charged with murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated arson. Ally identified Davenport as the alleged shooter.
Huff and Davenport will be back in court Aug. 22 for a preliminary hearing.
Last week, bond was set at $1 million for Rice, 28, of Ferndale Avenue. He is charged with murder and aggravated burglary.
Rice will be back in court Friday for a preliminary hearing.
