SteelHounds signing
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown SteelHounds have signed right wing Scott Barnes to a contract.
Barnes, 26, has played in Europe the past two seasons, spending last year with the Dundee Stars of the British National League.
In 60 games with Dundee, the Dunnville, Ont., native scored 28 goals with 29 assists with 200 penalty minutes. Barnes helped the Stars to the BNL championship scoring 10 goals and 18 assists in 15 playoff games.
"He is the type of player that will allow us to play both an aggressive and offensive style of game," SteelHounds coach Jean Laforest said.
The 6-foot, 180-pound forward played his first professional season (2003-04) with the Olympia Heist op den Berg in Belgium. Barnes scored 12 goals and 10 assists in 21 games. In six playoff games he scored five goals and three assists.
Barnes played collegiate hockey at Humber College where he was a conference all-star in 2002 and was named the team's Most Valuable Player.
Wagon Wheel/Redsclaim Innercity title
YOUNGSTOWN -- Wagon Wheel/Reds swept BW-3 (Downtown) 21-9 and 14-7 to win the Innercity men's softball league championship.
The title was the second in the last three years for Wagon Wheel/Reds.
In the first game, Chris Durkin had four hits, including two home runs, for Wagon Wheel/Reds. Ray Miller added three hits, while Donny Davolio, Ron Pangio and Todd O'Palick all hit home runs.
John P. Stanislaw had three hits for BW-3, and Matt Miles homered.
In game 2, Alan Davies and Justin Durkin had three hits apiece for Wagon Wheel/Reds. Will Cupp Jr. homered for BW-3, while Stanislaw, Miles and Will Cupp Sr. all had two hits.
Boxing
WARREN -- Rasheen Daniels, a Warren welterweight managed by the Steel Valley Boxing Club of Joe Venerosa, Chuck Bayley and Tom Cordell, is on an eight bout boxing card promoted by Resnick Productions at Frontier Field in Rochester, N.Y. Wednesday night.
The main event of the card is a 10-rounder for the New York State welterweight title between Hector Alejandro Jr. and Francisco Figueroa.
Daniels (2-5-1, 2 knockouts) turned pro in 2004 and the busy fighter will be in his fifth bout this year.
"Rasheen is beginning to get serious with his training habits and in his recent fights he has been very active in the ring and promoters are liking what they see, & quot; said Venerosa.
Daniels' opponent in a four-round welterweight battle will be Rochester's Vincent Arroyo, making his pro debut.
Clarificationon Browns game
In Tom Williams' column Monday about Saturday's Browns/Giants exhibition football game that was carried by WYTV Channel 33, he wrote that WYTV may have been caught offguard at halftime when host station WOIO took a newsbreak and raw footage of the stadium was shown by WYTV for about five minutes.
Dave Trabert, WYTV general manger, said the game rundown the station was given "did not include a newsbreak anywhere in the format. Had we known WOIO was doing a newsbreak, even with short notice, we would have done one. Unfortunately, we learned about it the same time the viewers did."
Also, Browns play-by-play announcer Bob Golic was incorrectly mentioned as an ESPN personality. Golic's brother Mike is part of ESPN's broadcast team.

DALLAS -- Texas Instruments Inc. will be the primary sponsor for a NASCAR team run by former Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach, who aim to have a car and driver ready for the Daytona 500 in February.
Texas Instruments will announce today it plans to use the car to promote its DLP, or digital light processing, technology used in high-definition televisions.
Company officials declined to give financial terms of the three-year NASCAR sponsorship, but primary sponsors on the Nextel Cup Series commonly spend $15 million to $20 million.

MASON -- Roger Federer and Andy Roddick overcame minor worries and moved on at the Cincinnati Masters. Andre Agassi dropped out and headed home with a lot on his mind.
