VICTORIA'S SECRET Show returns to CBS after year of turmoil

Wardrobe won't malfunction, because the network has a month to edit the tapes.
COLUMBUS (AP) -- After leaving its lingerie tucked away last year, Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is coming back.
The show, yanked from the air after Janet Jackson's breast-baring performance in the 2004 Super Bowl, is returning to the runway, CBS announced Thursday.
"We missed it when we took it off the air last year," Ed Razek, chief creative executive for the lingerie brand, said on Friday. "It's clearly an important part of the brand's DNA."
CBS aired the show in 2002 and 2003 before deciding to pull it last year in the wake of "Nipplegate," when the Federal Communications Commission cracked down on all things racy, raunchy and risque.
But the decision was more a way for Columbus-based Limited Brands, the operator of Victoria's Secret, to re-evaluate its promotion of its products, Razek said.
The hour-long show features top supermodels sporting the company's latest lingerie. It also typically incorporates singers, skits and an orchestra.
Making it good
Razek said he's optimistic about the lineup of performers this year and hopes to have them confirmed within a couple of weeks.
Razek said the program will be just as sexy and fun as it has been in the past. He said it is the most-watched fashion show with more than 12 million viewers.
"Our obligation is to make particularly the TV show entertaining," he said. "CBS has put a lot of trust in us."
But because the program will be taped Nov. 9 and will air closer to Christmas, the network doesn't need to worry about any "wardrobe malfunctions," Razek said.
The show was on ABC in 2001 and its first online show in 1999 made Internet history when 1.5 million visitors tried to log on and brought down the site within 20 minutes.
Limited Brands, with $9.4 billion in sales last year, canceled plans for the 2004 show after CBS parent Viacom Inc. came under attack for the halftime show at the Super Bowl.
