COLUMBIANA -- School officials are accepting letters from anyone interested in filling an open seat on the Columbiana school board.
Citing personal reasons, board member James Bosela resigned Wednesday. Bosela's term would have ended in January 2008.
Superintendent Ronald Iarussi said the board has 30 days to find a replacement, who must be approved by a majority vote of the remaining board members. Applicants must be 18 years old and residents of the school district.
The replacement would serve the remainder of this year, but could run for election in November to continue serving on the board after January, Iarussi said.
Applicants should write to Iarussi at 700 Columbiana-Waterford Road, Columbiana, Ohio, 44408. Letters can also be faxed to (330) 482-5361.
The superintendent will accept applications until Aug. 26.
Women assaulted
WARREN -- A 38-year-old woman said someone broke into her Oregon Avenue Northwest residence early Thursday and assaulted her, until she managed to free herself after about five hours and call police.
The subject was gone when police arrived. The woman was treated for minor injuries.
Board of educationmeeting pushed up
VIENNA -- The Mathews Board of Education has changed its meeting from Wednesday to Tuesday.
The board meets in executive session at 6 p.m. at its offices at 4434-B Warren-Sharon Road, with the regular meeting to start at 7.
Hubbard developmentboard meeting Monday
HUBBARD -- The Hubbard Joint Economic Development District Board will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the township administration building, 2600 Elmwood Drive Ext.
The meeting will focus on discussion and possible acceptance of a JEDD application to the district.
Help hot line gets grant
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ridgecliff Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant to Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc., providing funding for a peer education program.
The program, Building Recovery of Individual Dreams and Goals through Education and Support, will educate mental health service participants about their feelings over a 10-week course.
The classes, funded by Trumbull-based Lifelines and the Mahoning County Mental Health Board, will take place in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

'Taste of the Valley'deemed a success
YOUNGSTOWN -- Second Harvest Food Bank's "Taste of the Valley" attracted more than 400 guests last Sunday at Stambaugh Auditorium.
Thirty restaurants and numerous guests purchased tickets and sponsored tables. Local businesses donated auction items. The event raised $30,000 to feed hungry people in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
Second Harvest Food Bank provides 20,000 pounds of food daily to 198 hunger relief organizations such as churches, day-care centers and food pantries in the three counties.

Child accidentally startsfire at Chalmers Avenue
YOUNGSTOWN -- A boy about five years old accidentally stepped on a cigarette lighter and started a fire at 205 Chalmers Ave., officials said.
Firefighters took about 10 minutes to control the fire, which was contained to a second-floor room of the home and caused an estimated $10,000 in damage.
At least four people, including a baby sitter, were in the home when the fire started Friday afternoon, Capt. Alvin Ware said. No injuries were reported.
When the lighter ignited, it caught a mattress on fire, Ware said.
Weathersfield meeting
MINERAL RIDGE -- The location of the special informational meeting set for 7 p.m. Wednesday by Weathersfield Township trustees to address petitions on the Niles-Carver Road Phase I project has been changed to the Mineral Ridge High School auditorium. It had previously been scheduled to be at the township administration building.
More than 500 residents signed a petition opposing the township's plan to take out a $150,000 interest-free state loan for the estimated $157,000 project.
