WHISPERING PINES Camporee set by Boy Scouts

ROGERS -- The Whispering Pines District of the Greater Western Reserve Council Boy Scouts of America will hold its 2005 Spring Camporee on May 20-22 in Beaver Creek State Park.
The district includes Mahoning County. The theme is "Buckskin Days." The event is being hosted by Boy Scout Troop 25 of Canfield, and will be staffed by more than 40 troops and district volunteers and Boy Scouts.
More than 200 Boy Scouts, Webelos Scouts and their leaders will camp May 20 along the Little Beaver Creek in the Gaston's Mill area of the park.
On May 21, the scouts will spend the morning in the park's historic Gaston's Mill area and participate in a variety of activities encouraging and teaching many scout and backpack camping practices for safety and environmental awareness.
In the afternoon the group will backpack more than 3 miles to the Sprucevale Primitive Camping area to spend the evening, prepare dinner and end the day with a traditional campfire with songs, skits and awards.
The event will wrap up on May 22 with a nondenominational outdoor church service along Little Beaver Creek before leaving the area.
