Salvation Army to meet
AUSTINTOWN -- The Mahoning County Salvation Army's annual meeting will be at noon May 12 at 6431 Mahoning Ave.
The event will be part of the observance of National Salvation Army Week May 8 -14.
Featured speakers will be Lt. Colonels Joseph and Gladys DeMichael, divisional commander and associate divisional commander/director of Women's Ministries for the Western Pennsylvania Division of the Salvation Army, respectively. A report of the Salvation Army's charitable activities during the previous year will be given.
The DeMichaels previously held administrative positions with the Salvation Army in New Jersey, New York, New England and Ohio. Lt. Colonel Joseph DeMichael attended the International College for Officers in London, England. Lt. Colonel Gladys DeMichael has concentrated her ministry on issues affecting women and children, having studied at Alliance Seminary. For more information, call (330) 270-5999.
Mass for Bishop Tobin
YOUNGSTOWN -- A farewell Mass and reception will be held for Bishop Thomas J. Tobin at 10:30 a.m. May 15 at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 West Wood St.
Bishop Tobin is leaving Youngstown to become Bishop of Providence, R.I..
A reception will be held in St. Columba Cathedral Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

God's Quad to sing Sunday
SALEM -- The Southern Gospel Group, God's Quad will sing at the Solid Rock Community Church at 11 a.m. Sunday. The group is composed Dave Jackson, Jay Clark, Fred McLaughlin, Mark Burcaw and Jack Jackson. They live and work in the area serving God through their music ministry.
It is the kickoff of plans to feature a southern gospel group once a month during the summer. There is no charge, but a love offering will be received. A nursery also is provided. The church is at 1780 Franklin Road, state Route 344. For more information, call (330) 332-0990.
Methodist women to meet
YOUNGSTOWN -- The United Methodist Women of Richard Brown United Methodist Church will meet Thursday at the church. The executive committee will meet at 12:15. Lunch will be at 1 p.m. Everyone is to bring a sandwich and desert will be provided by Betty Hudak and her committee. Edith Thornton will provide the blessing and the program, "Education and Interpretation."
Vehicles to be blessed
YOUNGSTOWN -- A blessing of motorcycles and antique cars will be at 4 p.m. May 7 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 421 Covington St. Refreshments will be served after the event, which is open to all. For more information, call (330) 747-6762.
Women celebrate friendship
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Area Church Women United will celebrate May Friendship Day on Friday at New Bethel Baptist Church, 2005 Hillman St., Youngstown. Registration is at 9 a.m., and the service starts at 10 a.m.

Ministry to hold banquet
HUBBARD -- Don Reed Ministry will hold its annual spring banquet at 6:30 p.m. May 13 at the Brentford House. Speaker will be Jeniece Learned, founder and executive director of Pregnancy Services of Western Pennsylvania.
The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required by Monday. Call (724) 981-7777. Sponsors are needed to help defray expenses. Table sponsorship is $90 for a table of eight.
Victory in Europe event
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Resettlement Committee of Jewish Family Services invites the public to the 60th anniversary celebration of Victory in Europe at 1 p.m. May 8 at the Jewish Community Center. The date is most meaningful to families who fought or suffered losses while living in the former Soviet Union during World War II.

Council sponsors prayer day
CAMPBELL -- The Campbell Ecumenical Council of Churches is sponsoring a National Day of Prayer observance May 7 at Roosevelt Park, Pavilion #5.
The event will begin at 11 a.m., with refreshments provided. Donations will be accepted to help defray the costs of refreshments. There will be a short program consisting of praise and worship, homily, and recognition of God's blessings to our community and families serving in the Armed Services.
The public is welcome.
Church to hold friend day
NILES -- Trinity Lutheran Church will hold May Friendship Day May 6. A luncheon will start the program at 11:30 a.m. The message "Living in the Light" will be presented by the women of the First United Methodist Church.
A special collection will be taken for Fellowship of the Least Coin.

Rosary Cenacle to be held
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., and its Queen of the Holy Rosary Prayer Group invite the public to a Rosary Cenacle at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Devotions will consist of the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet recited during the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Refreshments will follow in the social hall.
Loyola orientation
NORTH JACKSON -- The Diocese of Youngstown Office of Religious Education has scheduled an orientation meeting for the Loyola University Institute for Ministry Extension Program from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Parish Hall, 50 Rosemont Road.
At the meeting, prospective students will register for Course 1 and make other preparations to begin a new learning group.
