PREP SOFTBALL Fitch stops Ursuline in eight innings



Falcons' Jen Purnell outdueled Irish's Marueen Cearfoss in the 2-1 game.
AUSTINTOWN -- Fitch High's Jen Purnell outdueled Ursuline's Maureen Cearfoss as the Falcons pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 2-1 victory Friday.
Purnell (7-4) had 12 strikeouts and scattered six hits, while Cearfoss allowed eight hits.
Andrea Lucente and Ashley Creatore had doubles for the Falcons (7-4). Lucente and Kara Warren drove in runs, and Kate Ferree singled twice.
Poland 8, Struthers 0
STRUTHERS -- Jenna Susany had three hits, two RBIs and scored a run for Poland (17-0, 9-0) in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
Kari Thompson and Allie Patton each added three hits for the Bulldogs, while Kristy Hertz (7-0) threw six shutout innings and struck out nine.
Michelle High doubled for Struthers (4-10, 1-7).
Jackson-Milton 3, South Range 2
NORTH JACKSON -- Kay Bruss had two hits and Krista Kiraly (6-9) got the win and also drove in two runs for the Bluejays (6-9, 3-5) in an Inter-County League game.
Skye Walley had two hits for the Raiders (3-10, 2-5), who scored two runs in the top of the seventh and had the tying run on second with one out. Jackson-Milton center fielder Megan Witmer made a diving catch and doubled the runner off second to end the threat.
Girard 6, Liberty 1
GIRARD -- Morgan Tondo tripled and singled and Erika Leskovec added a two-run triple to lead Girard in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Kassandra Simeon (3-1) pitched a two-hitter, striking out six and walking one for the Indians (7-12). Krista Kirkpatrick added two hits.
Lakeview 6, Hubbard 3
HUBBARD -- The Bulldogs (9-5, 5-5 TAC) rallied for two runs in the sixth inning to tie the score 3-3, then scored two more in the seventh for the win.
Lakeview's Lindsay Whetzel (5-1) worked five innings, allowed four hits and struck out six.
Kailynn Cerny, who came on in relief in the fifth inning, retired all six batters she faced.
Callie Oyler and Carrier Gasser, who drove in three runs, each had two hits for the Eagles (7-8, 4-4).
Ledgemont 5, Yo. Christian 4
YOUNGSTOWN -- Danielle Pecchia went 3-for-4 and scored two runs for Youngstown Christian (0-8). Melissa Byrdy added two RBIs.
Ledgemont is 14-1.
