EDUCATION Principal to lead Lakeview Local School District

The educator said he was stunned by the news.
CORTLAND -- The Lakeview Local School District has selected as its new superintendent Robert A. Wilson, a high school principal whose children are district students.
Wilson replaces Matthew Chojnacki, who is retiring after eight years in the district.
He said he learned of his selection Wednesday evening after an extensive interview process.
"Honestly, I was stunned. And very proud," Wilson said. "There's a long line of very successful superintendents from this district, and the faculty here is outstanding. ... I chose to raise a family here."
Wilson and his wife, Peggy, a school psychologist in Mahoning County, live in Cortland with their two children, both students at Lakeview High School.
"The board received 29 applications and interviewed eight candidates before selecting Mr. Wilson," said Michael Ranttila, board president. "We are looking forward to Mr. Wilson having a long and successful tenure as the leader of our district."
Taking over Aug. 1
The board of education will take formal action to hire Wilson as superintendent at its May board meeting, and Wilson will begin his new position on Aug. 1.
He said it's too early for him to discuss any possible changes in the district.
Wilson has served for 14 years as high school principal.
"It's not a small district. Obviously I'm very familiar with the high school," he said, noting he'll probably need to become more familiar with the middle school and two elementaries.
He was the assistant principal for six years at Liberty High School before coming to Lakeview.
Wilson also has teaching experience in Warren city, Liberty and Lakeview schools, where he taught social studies.
He is a 1971 Warren G. Harding High School graduate.
Before beginning his career in education, he worked at Packard Electric. But he said the business world didn't excite him as much as education.
Wilson received his bachelor's degree from the College of Wooster in economics and history. He holds a master's degree in school administration from Westminster College.
