CHARITY United Way names campaign chairman

The agency's 2005 campaign will kick off July 21.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Robert W. Shroder, president and chief executive officer of Humility of Mary Health Partners, has been named chairman of the 2005 Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way campaign.
The campaign will kick off July 21 with the Pacesetter Campaign; the General Campaign begins Aug. 31 with the communitywide Day of Caring.
The announcement that Shroder will head the campaign came Wednesday at the annual meeting of the Community Corporation, the parent organization of the local United Way.
Mary Novak of Parker Hannifin Corp. was re-elected chairwoman and chief volunteer officer of Community Corporation.

Other officers elected were: William J. Bresnahan of Hynes Industries, Walter J. Pishkur of Aqua Ohio and Delores E. Crawford of Mahoning County, all vice chairpersons; G.L. Mears, treasurer; Parker T. McHenry, assistant treasurer; Franklin S. Bennett Jr. of Butler Wick Corp., secretary; and Donald Cagigas, president and chief professional officer.
Elected to the board of trustees were: Mark A. Brown of The Vindicator, Gerald Butler of GM's Lordstown assembly complex, Thomas J. Cavalier of Butler Wick Corp., Ronald K. Chordas of Youngstown State University, David H. Coy of WKBN/WYFX, J. Patrick Downey, Jeffrey A. Elser of Ohio Edison, Rabbi Franklin W. Muller, George F. Popovich of Plumbers & amp; Pipefitters Local Union 396, Richard J. Schiraldi of Cohen & amp; Co., Theodore M. Schmidt of National City, Scott R. Schulick of Butler Wick Corp., Patricia M. Sweet, Julie Michael Smith, the governor's regional representative, Thomas H. Warga of Laborers Local Union 125 and Bruce J. Zoldan of B.J. Alan Co.
Novak thanked the business, labor, financial and general community for their support last year. She thanked 2004 campaign chairman Thomas R. Hollern and his team of volunteers for their efforts in exceeding the goal and raising $3.2 million.
Becky Heikkinen, a guidance counselor at Canfield High School, was selected the winner of a Chevy Cobalt car in the Greenwood Chevrolet/United Way giveaway. Nearly 3,500 people who donated a minimum of $104 to the United Way qualified for the drawing.
