BASEBALL Wilson tops Rayen, earns first win



Drew Turocy had four hits to lead Canfield past Boardman.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kevin Newberry hit a two-run homer and Bryant Bailey added two hits and three stolen bases as the Wilson High baseball team got its first win by defeating Rayen 6-3 Friday at Pemberton Park.
Jarvis Tabb (1-2) added two hits and got the win for the Redmen (1-12). Rayen is 0-11.
Ursuline 7, Chaney 1
STRUTHERS -- Ryan Satterlee had two hits and scored twice to lead Ursuline (12-5). Lou Kopachy hit a solo homer for Chaney (2-13).
Canfield 10, Boardman 3
BOARDMAN -- Drew Turocy hit a double, three singles, drove in three runs and scored three times for Canfield in a non-league game.
Behind 3-1, Sean Baker's three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning put the Cardinals ahead for keeps.
Josh McKenney (1-0) worked four innings, allowed two hits and struck out six to pick up his first win of the season. Jeff Olenych came on in relief in the fifth inning and he pitched three innings of shutout ball.
McKenney hit a home run and single and scored twice, while Joe Rosko doubled and singles and drove in a run.
Mooney 5, Norton 2
STRUTHERS -- Dan Babyak scattered four hits and struck out four to pick up the win.
The Cardinals (13-3), down 2-1, took the lead in the bottom of the fifth as they scored two runs.
Babyak aided his own cause with a pair of singles and he scored twice. Kyle McCarthy hit a double and single and drove in a run. Joe Irwin hit three singles, drove in two runs and scored once.
Matt Wheeland led Norton (10-6) with a double and he scored once.
Stow 10, Poland 2
POLAND -- Jim Kozlow went 2-for-3 and scored a run for Poland (11-7).
Jim O'Neill had three hits and two RBIs for Stow (11-6) and Jimmy Smith (2-0) had nine strikeouts.
Campbell 2, Struthers 1
STRUTHERS -- Campbell, held to two singles, scored the deciding run in the fifth inning as Lou Sammonas walked, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored on a groundout.
Lonnie McQueen (8-6) scattered three hits and struck out 10 Struthers (3-12) batters to pick up the win.
South Range 16, Jackson-Milton 0
NORTH JACKSON -- The Raiders (8-5, 6-1 Inter-County League) put the game out of reach when they scored nine runs in the fourth inning.
Ben Detwiler pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven to pick up the win.
Josh Less had three hits and drove in three runs to pace South Range. Joel Melnick and Tom Biroschak each drove in two runs.
