Academic game winners listed for Columbiana



LISBON -- The finals for the Col-umbiana County Educational Service Center's Junior High and Junior Varsity Academic Challenge competition recently were held at Lisbon David Anderson Junior/Senior High School.
Eleven school districts competed in the junior high seventh- and eighth-grade rounds while eight high schools fielded teams for the ninth- and 10th-grade junior varsity matches. More than 160 pupils from Columbiana County participated in the event.
Teams that received trophies for winning the most matches in their age groups were:
JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
UFirst place*: Salem Junior High, Coach Brenda Kish.
USecond place: East Palestine, Coach Jean Metzger.
UThird place (tie): Columbiana, Coach Stephanie Baylor; and Southern Local, Coach Kim Mayer.
JUNIOR VARSITY
UFirst place: Lisbon David Anderson, Coach Connie Gorby.
USecond place (tie): Southern Local, Coach Kim Mayer; and Wellsville, Coach Bonnie Mikanik.
UThird place (tie): East Palestine, Coach Jean
Metzger; and Salem, Coach Joe Shivers.
*Won in a tie-breaker. Salem and East Palestine were tied for first place at the end of regulation.
