The Board of Control of the Inter-County League rehired Jim Pepperney as commissioner for the 2005-06 school year.
This will be the final season for the ICL, which will merge with the Tri County League to form the new Inter Tri County League.
Poland winsMAC tennis title
POLAND -- The Poland High tennis team clinched the Metro Athletic Conference title on Wednesday by defeating Howland 5-0.
Coached by John Hritz, the Bulldogs (16-0) ended their MAC conference matches with a record of 12-0.
Wildcats win
PALATINE, Ill. -- Former YSU standouts TeJay Anderson (23 points) and A.C. Crockett (12 points, 10 assists) helped lead the Mahoning Valley Wildcats to a 122-112 win over Windy City in an International Basketball League game Thursday.
Joe Lewandowski had 22 points, Mark Metzka had 13 and Greg Foster had 16 for the Wildcats (4-1), who got their first road win and their first win under coach Andre Smith.
"Anytime you get a win on the road, it's a confidence builder," said Smith, who was promoted on Tuesday after former coach Rob Spon was fired. "We were short-handed with only 10 players, but they all played great ball and we came out with the victory."
Other scorers included Rick McFadden (nine), Bill Mallernee (nine), Lawrence Culver (eight), Rob Robinson (six) and Dan Sepesy (three).
The Wildcats will play at Detroit at 7 p.m. Saturday.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Westminster College men's golf team is one of just 23 teams selected for the NCAA Division III Men's golf championships May 9-12, 2005, at the Mission Inn Golf & amp; Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
Mooney's Olesto attend Walsh
NORTH CANTON -- Cardinal Mooney High soccer player Nicholas Oles will continue his athletic career while attending Walsh University.
A two-year letterman, Oles was a captain for the state-runner-up Cardinals. A fullback, he is a member of National Honor Society.
Colts release Floyd
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts released veterans safety Anthony Floyd.
Floyd, a graduate of Chaney High, was slowed by injuries after the Colts signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Louisville in 2003. He played primarily as a backup and on special teams but also started two games in 2004.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Cardinal Mooney High senior Kyle McCarthy will be among those honored at the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation banquet May 9.
McCarthy's name was inadvertently omitted from the list of area honorees earlier in the week.

Huston gets anotherseason with Buckeyes
COLUMBUS -- Kicker Josh Huston has been granted a rare sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA due to a medical hardship, Ohio State announced Thursday.
Huston was signed from Findlay, Ohio, in 2000 but missed his freshman season with left knee pain, which was fixed in a postseason operation. He played in 2001 but mostly did kickoffs as then-freshman Mike Nugent handled most extra points and field goals.
Huston had surgery on his right knee and hips that kept him out in 2002.
The sixth year is usually granted to players who can prove a significant medical problem kept them out one season.

U.S. beats Germany
ROSENHEIM, Germany -- Mark Parrish scored two goals and Mike Modano also scored to help the United States beat Germany 3-1 Thursday in its final exhibition game before the world hockey championships in Austria.
Modano, selected the team's captain Thursday, made it 2-1 midway through the third period, and Parrish added an empty-net goal in the final minute. Rick DiPietro made 20 saves for the Americans, allowing only Christian Ehrhoff's second-period goal.
The U.S. team, 3-1 in exhibition play, will open the world championships Sunday in Innsbruck against Slovenia.
Modano is a 16-year NHL veteran.
