Boy, 10, charged in killing
IOLA, Kan. -- A 10-year-old boy was charged Wednesday with murder in the shotgun slaying of his father. Robert D. Hamlin, 42, who was found dead on a couch at home. Deputies found the boy a quarter-mile away with a 20-gauge shotgun. The boy was charged as a juvenile and could be held until age 23 if convicted.

Digging out a tree Wednesday at Kozak's house in Methuen, Mass., Crebase found a box stuffed with cash and gold and silver certificates, some more than a century old. The treasure is estimated to be worth as much as $75,000.

Train, bus collide; 35 die
POLGAHAWELA, Sri Lanka -- An intercity passenger train collided with a bus that tried to dash through a railroad crossing Wednesday, killing 35 people, officials said. The passenger bus, apparently racing another bus, slipped past a warning gate and tried to cross a railroad track. Police said they arrested the driver of the bus.
