BASEBALL Western Reserve powers 12-2 win



Brando Moherman and Brock Christie both had homers against McDonald.
BERLIN CENTER -- Brandon Moherman hit a two-run homer and Brock Christie a solo shot in the third inning Tuesday as the Western Reserve High baseball team upended McDonald, 12-2.
Western Reserve (11-4, 5-3 Inter-County league) scored five runs in the first inning and four more in the second.
Winning pitch Jeff Zatchok, who hit a pair of singles, gave up only two hits. Vince Barbone hit a double and single.
Jonathan Camuso hit a two-run homer for McDonald in the fourth inning. Losing pitcher Tyler Stanley hit a double.
Springfield 6, Liberty 5
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Joey D'Amato had a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh and scored the game-tying run on a passed ball.
Springfield scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to stun Liberty.
Melio Rios, who walked after D'Amato's triple, scored the game-winner on the second passed ball of the inning for the Tigers (11-5), who trailed by three runs with one on and two outs left in the seventh.
Tyler Yaeger went the first 61/3, striking out nine and walking three. Dane Dobson (2-1) came on with one out in the seventh, striking out the last two batters.
Phil Bessoiu had seven strikeouts and four walks for Liberty (6-9).
South Range 3, East Palestine 1
BEAVER TOWNSHIP -- Ben Detwiler tripled home two runs and scored on Joe Marino's sacrifice fly.
Raiders (7-5) pitchers Jeff Pilcher, Josh Less and Steve Bensinger combined to limit the Bulldogs to four hits.
For East Palestine, Jake Harvey limited the Raiders to three hits. Travis Newman's two hits included a double.
Poland 6, Struthers 0
STRUTHERS -- Adam Wigley (4-2) worked five innings, scattered three hits and struck out nine to pick up the win.
He also paced the Bulldogs (10-6, 6-3 Metro Athletic Conference) with a double and single and drove in a run.
Boardman 8,Canton McKinley 5
BOARDMAN -- Anthony Porter and Joe Bako hit first-inning homers as the Spartans (9-7, 3-4 Federal League) jumped out to a 7-0 lead.
Bako had four RBIs and Porter two. Kevin Sikora and Joe Iacabucci doubled.
McKinley is 4-9, 1-6.
Campbell 9, Brookfield 0
BROOKFIELD -- Craig DiRenzo's two doubles drove in two runs and he scored twice for the Red Devils (7-6). Antoni Zembillas also had two doubles and scored twice.
Lonnie McQueen had three hits and a run batted in for Campbell. Winning pitcher Stan Gozur (2-2) tossed a two-hitter.
For Brookfield (8-7), Justin Wellton and Brian Daughtery had hits.
