CARMEL, Ind. -- Youngstown State lost to Illinois-Chicago, 4-0, in its first-ever appearance in the Horizon League Championship final Sunday night.
The Penguins beat Butler 4-2 match earlier in the day to advance to the final.
The Flames won the conference tournament for the ninth consecutive year and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the seventh straight season. YSU became the first team other than Butler and UIC to reach the final since 2001.
In doubles, Karen Najbert and Gina Peretti lost 9-7 to Iris Jaklin and Melanie Humphrey, and Michelle Fuleky and Whitney Thomas lost to Corey Steven and Christina Oum, 8-2.
In singles, UIC's Molly Smith beat Thomas, 6-2, 7-5; Steven defeated Heather Hagood 6-2, 6-1 and Humphrey beat Peretti 6-3, 6-1 to clinch the match.
The Penguins finished the season with a record of 14-10.

Struthers' Campanato Westminster
STRUTHERS -- Struthers High senior Ty Campana will continue his football and track careers at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa.
The six-feet-one-inch athlete played wide receiver and defensive back for the Wildcats football team. He received all-Metro Athletic Conference honors as wide receiver.
In track, he was the anchor for last year's Division III state champion 4x100 relay team. The Struthers 4x200 team finished second at state. The son of T.J. and Debbie Campana, he has run the 100-meter dash in 10.9.

*GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel College senior Keith Jackson (Salem) was named Presidents' Athletic Conference hitter of the week.
Jackson, normally a pitcher, went 4-for-6 with a pair of two-run homers, four RBIs and three runs scored in Thiel's 21-6 win over Pitt-Greensburg.
*GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel juniors Shaun Jackson and Kandiace Gibson were named PAC athletes of the week.
At the Westminster Invitational, Jackson won the 400 meters (50.41) and was on two winning relays.
At the same meet, Gibson won the 100 (12.58) and 200 (26.57) and was on the winning 4x100 relay/

*CHESTER, W. Va. -- Austintown heavyweight Chris Koval was added to the card at the Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort's "The Harv" Thursday night.
Koval (20-2, 16 knockouts) will fight Jason Waller (27-26-4, 19 KOs), of Stafford, Va., in a six-round bout. Waller is 57 years old with 34 years as a pro. In 1992 he knocked out former light heavyweight champion Matthew Saad Muhammad.
Also on the card will be Dan Harvision from McKeesport, Pa. and Joe Wyatt from Pittsburgh, both of whom, like Koval, are managed by Pat Nelson of Youngstown.
Harvison (11-0, 8 KOs) will be in a 12 round battle for a vacant NABO cruiserweight championship against Rayco Saunders (14-4-1, 6 KOs) from Pittsburgh.
Wyatt (19-0, 13 KOs) will go against George Klinesmith (20-8, 13 KOs) from Wintersville for the vacant NABO light middleweight title.
There are two other championship bouts on the card that are scheduled 10 rounders. One has Verquan Kimbrough (10-0-1, 4 KOs) from Aliquippa, Pa. fighting Chad Wright (11-4, 9 KOs) of Galion for the vacant IBC Americas featherweight championship.
The other 10 rounder has Monty Mesa Clay (14-0, 10 KOs) from Rankin, Pa., battling James Baker (13-6-3, 4 KOs) from Washington D.C. for the vacant NABO super featherweight title.
*YOUNGSTOWN -- Late registration for the KO Drugs High School Boxing Tournament will start today.
Registration will be taken today from 4-6 p.m. at the Dick's Sporting Goods in Boardman, and Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at the Dick's Sporting Goods in Niles.
The tournament, in its 18th year, will be held at the St. Nicholas Byzantine Center at the Grove on Shady Run Road, starting May 3.
