Judge: Assault case to go to grand jury

The defendant faces charges of assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

WARREN -- A mother who is alleged to have hit a police officer after her son was arrested will soon have her case decided by a Trumbull County grand jury.
Judge Thomas Gysegem of municipal court ordered Tarra Brown's case bound over to the grand jury after a preliminary hearing Monday.
Brown, 34, who did not testify, is charged with assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
"It's not over," said Atty. Gilbert Rucker, who represents Brown. "We'll get another chance at the common pleas level."
It's not known when the grand jury will hear the case.
Officer's contention
Patrol Officer Doug Hipple, who arrested Brown Oct. 19, testified Monday that she hit him several times after he arrested her son, Regis Allgood, 14, on a disorderly-conduct charge. Hipple and Patrol Officer Nick Carney arrested the boy after they say he swore at him.
"I told her to stay back three times," Hipple testified. "She assaulted me. She hit me in the chest and the shoulder area multiple times."
Brown has denied that she hit the officer and has filed a complaint with the department's internal-affairs unit. Rucker said he does not know the status of Brown's complaint.
A Trumbull County juvenile magistrate dismissed the criminal charge filed against Allgood.
The disorderly-conduct charge was dismissed March 31 after Magistrate Monte Horton found the boy's conduct did not rise to the level of criminal conduct. The magistrate still called the conduct "reprehensible."
Rucker said the boy maintains he never swore at the officers.
