Controlling Board OKs projects

COLUMBUS -- The state Controlling Board approved $330,446 for two Columbiana County projects.
The board allocated $187,500 to assist in the construction of a 10-unit, multifamily residential facility to house the mentally disabled in Lisbon.
The project's total cost is about $934,000, with Apple Grove Homes II providing the rest of the money needed for the 5,730-square-foot facility.
The board on Monday also approved a request for $142,946 to upgrade and renovate the Ohio Highway Patrol Post 15 in Lisbon to comply with federal Americans with Disability Act requirements.
The money will be used to provide handicapped parking improvements, modify entry ways and corridors for accessibility, install handicapped intercoms, toilet facilities, shower and locker room facilities, handicapped-accessible water fountains and signage.
"It's essential that Columbiana County continues to receive funds from the state to help improve the quality of life for our residents," said state Rep. Charles Blasdel of East Liverpool, R-1st, who represents Columbiana County in the Ohio House.
The Controlling Board is the legislative oversight committee responsible for approving the transfer and release of funds for construction-related projects.
