Burger King robbed
AUSTINTOWN -- The manager of a Burger King on Mahoning Avenue told police that a robber took $260 after hinting that she had a weapon.
The manager said that a black woman came into the restaurant about 10 p.m. Sunday and demanded money from the register. When the manager asked why she should comply, the robber reached into her jacket and replied, "You don't want to find out why."
The employee gave the woman money from the register and she fled out of the business and got into a car that headed east on Mahoning.
Charges pile up for two
AUSTINTOWN -- A Youngstown man is facing several charges after being accused of vandalism at a Mahoning Avenue bar and then trying to escape from a room at the police station.
Police were called to the Pink Elephant about 10 p.m. Saturday where witnesses told them that Bernard C. Walter Jr., 40, of Tippecanoe Road, and Dow Davis, 49, of South Turner Road, Austintown, were pulling on an electric meter outside the bar, causing a power failure.
Both men were arrested and charged with felony vandalism. Davis also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, after police say they found a marijuana pipe on him.
While Walter was in an observation room at the station, he tried to remove the door hinges to escape, police said. Police said he also fought with officers when they tried to move him to another room. A picture on the hallway wall of the police station fell and broke during the struggle.
Walter also was charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest and a felony charge of attempted escape.
Drug suspect charged
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Michigan man driving a rental van on the South Side was arrested during a routine traffic stop when police found two large bags of suspected marijuana in a duffel bag at 1 a.m. Monday, reports show.
Rodney F. Tucker, 35, of Detroit, was charged with aggravated trafficking in marijuana. His bond was set at $25,000 at arraignment Monday, and he will be back in court May 2 for a preliminary hearing.
Police said they pulled Tucker over after he ran the stop sign at Ellenwood Avenue and turned south onto Erie Street. Police also seized $319 found in Tucker's pocket.
Agency open house set
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County Children Services will have an open house for the community from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at its new headquarters at 222 W. Federal St.
People can tour the officers, meet staff and learn more about the agency.
Break-in reported
YOUNGSTOWN -- A lawyer's office downtown was broken into about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, reports show.
Police said they saw pry marks on the front door of Damian Billak's office at 103 E. Boardman St. Fingerprints were lifted from glass on the door and the surveillance video was viewed by police. No loss was reported. The office was broken into twice last Friday, Billak said.
Suspect finally shows
YOUNGSTOWN -- Shirley Ingram was booked into the Mahoning County Jail on April 8 and charged with failing to appear in municipal court on a solicitation charge.
She was released from the jail April 10 because of overcrowding, but failed to show up in municipal court April 20 to answer to the charge. Police issued a warrant, which was served about 2:30 a.m. Sunday during a traffic stop on Glenwood Avenue when police spotted Ingram, 35, of Murray Street, in the rear seat of the car.
She appeared in court Monday for arraignment. Her trial is scheduled for May 11.
