Candy is a "veteran performer with gospel roots that stretch back three generations," a church spokesman said. She grew up in the gospel music industry, releasing her first recording in 1973 at age 13. That song, "I Came on Business for the King," hit No. 5 on the gospel music charts.
After putting her music career on hold in 1988 to rear her children, she resumed her career in 1996 when gospel singer and songwriter Bill Gaither invited her to participate in a videotape project called "Gaither and Friends Revival."
Her ministry has taken off in "new and unanticipated directions." Her songwriting is inspired by personal experience as she blends the old with the new and offers a "lively twist on tradition."
