WARREN -- Amie D. McGee of Warren won $40,000 playing the Ohio Lottery instant game Slingo.
After federal and state taxes totaling 28.5 percent, McGee will receive a check for $28,600.
She bought the winning ticket at Four Seasons Car Wash, 2120 Elm Road, Bazetta Township.
Pharmacy drugs stolen
YOUNGSTOWN -- Drugs were stolen during a break-in at Mill Creek Square Pharmacy.
A side plate-glass window was broken with a sledgehammer to gain entry to the pharmacy, 1268 S. Schenley Ave. The sledgehammer was found at the scene. About 100 Valium, 240 OxyContin and 60 Viagra pills were taken, reports show.
The break-in was discovered Wednesday morning by the pharmacist.
Robbery suspect sought
YOUNGSTOWN -- A skinny, 5-foot-6-inch white man in his mid-30s with a tattoo on his left arm is a suspect in the robbery of Burger King on West Midlothian Boulevard, police said.
The man had a gun in his waistband when he reached over the counter and grabbed cash from an open register about 10 p.m. Wednesday, reports show.
Gun arrest nets teen
WARREN -- Two students attending a downtown academy were caught by a security guard as they examined a handgun that was inside a car trunk, city police said.
In the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center is a 17-year-old male, charged with possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone; the other student, a 20-year-old male, is being sought by Warren police.
They both were attending Lifeskills, 458 Franklin St. S.E., when the incident occurred at lunchtime Tuesday.
The weapon never entered the academy, said Detective Michael Currington. A security guard came up behind the two as the handgun was being viewed.
"It was never in the school, there were never any threats made, there was no hit list," he said. "It was, 'Hey look what I've got -- oops ... Who's this behind me? Oh, it's a security guard."
Boil alert ends Saturday
GIRARD -- A boil alert is in effect until noon Saturday for all water customers on Mosier Road north of the interstate highway overpass to East Liberty Street, Elruth Court from Mosier to East Wilson, and all of Park Circle, city officials said.
All residents are asked to boil their water during this time.
Robbery suspect charged
CAMPBELL -- Federal authorities on Thursday charged Aaron Hernandez, 23, of 555 Devitt Ave., with Wednesday's robbery of the Sky Bank at 809 McCartney Road.
The FBI said a white male entered the bank about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday and presented a bank employee with a note demanding $50,000 to $100,000. The note indicated that the robber had a bomb that would be detonated if he did not receive the money. The robber also lifted his shirt and displayed what was later determined to be a fake bomb. He left with an undisclosed amount of money.
Hernandez was later located in Hillsville, Pa., and voluntarily returned to Campbell.
He is being held in Cleveland and could face up to 25 years in jail, if convicted.
Pregnancy prevention
YOUNGSTOWN -- U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, plans to soon introduce legislation to help prevent unwanted pregnancies and reduce the national abortion rate.
The plan would provide money to states, communities and organizations to finance pregnancy prevention programs, abortion counseling and education, informational programs for pregnant women, tax credits for adoption, health care opportunities and domestic violence programs.
The plan also would provide for adoption counseling in federally funded maternity group homes and teach parenting skills.
