NORTH BEAVER TWP. Man evaluated after suicide threat, standoff

BESSEMER, Pa. -- A 47-year-old man was being evaluated at a hospital Monday after threatening suicide at his home in North Beaver Township and holding police at bay Sunday for nearly five hours.
The man, who had 11 rifles inside his house at 125 Shogren Lane, was identified as Robert Paul List. He faces charges of terroristic threats and disorderly conduct, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper John Ludwig said.
The standoff began about 4 p.m. when List told his wife to leave the house because he was going to commit suicide, police said.
The state police Special Emergency Response Team responded, and a helicopter was dispatched in case List tried to escape the area, Ludwig said.
Troopers made contact with List, who told them he would talk only with District Justice David Rishel, who is an acquaintance, Ludwig said. The judge and a state police negotiator talked at length with List and eventually persuaded him to give up. The man walked out of the house about 8:45 p.m. and surrendered peacefully, Ludwig said.
List was taken to Jamison Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
Police said they searched his house and seized 11 shotguns and rifles. List apparently had legal possession of the weapons, Ludwig said.
