COLUMBIANA COUNTY Ohio EPA seeks public input on plan to curb local water pollution

SALEM -- The Ohio EPA's Northeast District Office will hold two public meetings April 27 in Columbiana County to discuss pollution management in local bodies of water.
The first meeting will be at 2 p.m. at the Carnegie Public Library in East Liverpool. The second meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Salem Public Library.
These meetings give residents of the Little Beaver Creek watershed and Columbiana County a chance to influence regulatory policies.
Based on testing of the waters of Little Beaver Creek, the Ohio EPA has developed a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) plan. A TMDL determines the maximum amount of pollutants that can be discharged daily into a body of water and still meet state and federal water quality standards.
Strategies
This TMDL plan outlines the Ohio EPA's strategies for managing pollution sources the agency regulates, such as wastewater treatment plants and storm water management.
A draft of the TMDL plan for the Little Beaver Creek watershed has been written by the Ohio EPA. Before the plan can be finalized, it must be submitted for public review and comment. To meet this requirement, the Ohio EPA's Northeast District Office is holding the meetings to let citizens ask questions and comment on the plan.
