Boardman splits doubleheader at Ashland

ASHLAND -- Ashley DiDomenico pitched a four-hit shutout to lead the Boardman High softball team to a 5-0 win over St. Dominic's Academy of Jersey City, N.J., in Saturday's Wendy's Invitational.
The Spartans also lost to Lake Park of Roselle, Ill., 6-1.
DiDomenico (6-4) struck nine and did not walk a batter against St. Dominic's.
She also had two hits for the Spartans (8-6). Addie Carothers and Danielle Burin each had two hits and scored twice.
St. Dominic's is 8-2.
Holly Holman hit an RBI single to score Nicole Williams for Boardman in the opener. The Spartans committed four errors in the game and all six runs were unearned.
Lake Park is 13-0.
Elyria 3, Ursuline 2St. Joseph 7, Ursuline 4
ELYRIA -- The Irish lost twice in the St. Ursula Invitational tournament.
In the first game, Elyria scored the deciding run in the fifth inning as Katy Hyatt singled home Rachel Vakerics.
In the finale, Jenna Klempay and Maureen Cearfoss each had two hits in a losing cause as the Irish (7-5) fell behind 5-4 after three innings and couldn't catch up.
