PREP BASEBALL Inside-the-park homer highlights Mooney win



Kyle McCarthy had two extra-base hits and three RBIs for the Cardinals.
STRUTHERS -- Mooney High senior Kyle McCarthy hit an inside-the-park homer in a two-run sixth inning as the Cardinals rallied past St. Thomas Aquinas 7-6 in a non-league baseball game Saturday at Cene Park.
McCarthy also had a double and three RBIs for the Cardinals (8-2). Jonathan Grist had two hits and two RBIs and Joe Irwin had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored.
Evan Proach had two hits and scored twice for Aquinas (5-7).
Poland 17, Howland 2
HOWLAND -- Winning pitcher Jim Pasquine (2-1) had four hits, including a homer and double, to drive in five runs.
Adam Wigley's three hits included a homer, and he drove in two runs. Tom Clayton had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.
Dom Marchionda and Jim Kotlow both had two hits including doubles for the Bulldogs (8-5, 4-1 Metro Athletic Conference). Marc Turnbull's two hits drove in two runs.
Ben Leece doubled for Howland (8-1).
Niles 11, Liberty 1
NILES -- Jared Devorich (1-0) fired a five-inning one-hitter for the Red Dragons (9-3).
Joe Razzano's three hits drove in two runs. Brandon Miller's two hits included a double and drove in two runs. Robby Porter and Mike Ruscitti each had two hits.
Shawn Lininger had the lone hit for Liberty (4-6).
Massillon 11-0, Canfield 5-13
MASSILLON -- C.J. Morris had three hits and Sean Baker two for the Cardinals (7-5) in their loss. Drew Turocy and Brett Grabman doubled.
In Canfield's win, Dan Valentine (1-1) scattered five hits and Baker hit a three-run homer. Matt Guerrieri, Grabman, Joe Rosko, Zach Guerrieri and Nick Kwolek each had two hits.
Massillon is 7-5.
Boardman 10, Stow 0
BOARDMAN -- Chris Tremblay homered and drove in three runs for the Spartans. Justin Lemmo had three hits while Cameron Cinimo, Kevin Sikora and Anthony Porter had two.
Boardman 10, New Castle 0
BOARDMAN -- Richie O'Brien tossed a five-inning three-hitter with four strikeouts for the Spartans (7-6). D.J. Ronci had three hits while Sikora drove in three runs and Anthony Hodos two.
New Castle is 2-6.
Columbiana 15, Struthers 8
STRUTHERS -- Lorin Dickison had four hits, Billy Sattler three hits and David Vitko three triples for Columbiana (11-0).
Tom Peluso had four hits for Struthers (2-9). Jim Farris added a triple.
Crestview 10-8, Lowellville 0-2
STRUTHERS -- Winning pitcher Landon Berger struck out five batters, had two hits and scored two runs at Cene Park. Adam Thompson doubled for the Rebels while Mike Wilie's two hits included a double and brought home three runs.
The Rockets are 1-10.
The Rebels completed the doubleheader sweep as David Myers hit an inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning and teammate Jordan Reynolds did the same thing in the sixth. Craig Schmidt was 2-for 3 with two RBIs for Crestview and Thompson was 2-for-4 and scored twice.
West Branch 19-11, East Palestine 3-2
EAST PALESTINE -- Andy Todor and Jim King each had three hits including triples in the first game. King drove in seven runs and Todor two.
In the second game, Chad Kitzmiller (2-0) struck out 10 batters for the Warriors (7-4). Josh Winans and Marc Possage had three hits for the Warriors while Dave Baker had two for the Bulldogs (0-12).
Newton Falls 11-16, Southeast 9-2
RAVENNA -- In the first game, Ryan Remack and Brent Davis doubled for the Tigers while Richard Hedrick homered for the Pirates (1-9).
In the second game, Davis, Trent Mauric and Eric Medallis doubled for the Tigers (9-5).
Jackson-Milton 10-10, Leetonia 9-8
NORTH JACKSON -- It took the Bluejays eight innings to earn the victory in the first game. Adam Keck paced the Jackson-Milton 11-hit attack with a triple.
The Bluejays (7-5) had a 9-3 lead in the fourth inning of the second game, and the Bears couldn't recover.
Zack Kosa hit two doubles, while Ryan Clawson and Brent Hageman each hit one for the Bluejays.
Girard 6, LaBrae 4
GIRARD -- The Indians (4-8), behind 3-0, scored a run in the second inning, then took the lead for keeps when they scored four runs in the third.
Eric Stevens hit a pair of doubles, drove in two runs and scored once to pace the Indians. Ryan Tolone chipped in with two singles.
Lordstown 16, Bristol 2
BRISTOLVILLE -- Eight runs in the first inning was more than enough for the Red Devils (2-7). Keith Simpson hit a double and two singles and drove in four runs. Winning Brandon Wickline (1-2), who struck out six, hit three singles and scored twice.
Salem 8-6, Beaver Local 1-5
SALEM -- The Quakers scored five runs in the third inning to pull away in the first game. Jarin Heath (1-1) worked six innings and struck out eight to pick up the win. Heath was 3-for-4 and Mark Kolich 3-for-3 to pace Salem.
In the bottom of the seventh inning of the second contest, the Quakers' (8-4) Heath was hit by a pitch. Cody Dillon singled, and with two away, Brian Wright singled home Heath.
Mark Kolich (3-0) came on relief in the fourth for the Quakers and allowed only one hit to pick up the win. Dillon went 3-for-4 with a double to pace Salem.
