PREP TRACK Record throw helps Panezich earn MVP



EAST PALESTINE -- Springfield senior Nick Panezich set a meet and stadium record in the discus with a throw of 184 feet, 10 inches en route to field MVP honors at Saturday's Bulldog Invitational at Reid Stadium.
Panezich, who also won the shot put, broke the meet (176-6) and stadium (182-3) marks set by Berkshire's Dan Taylor in 2000.
Mooney's Mike Mazerik won the 100-meter, 200 and 4x100 relay to earn running MVP, leading the Cardinals to the team title.
On the girls side, Leetonia's Malorie Valentine and Southeast's Danielle Cofojohn shared field MVP and Trinity's Elyse Johnson won running MVP.
Poland senior Colleen Moran won the 1600 with a meet record time of 5:18.8, breaking the record of 5:27.8 set by South Range's Kim Nemergut in 2000. Moran also won the 3200 and 4x800 relay to lead the Bulldogs to the team title.
Western Reserve Invitational
BERLIN CENTER -- Southington's Ryan Gilanyi set meet records in the 800 (2:02.48) and 1600 (4:34.20) to earn distance MVP at the Division III Invitational at Western Reserve.
Columbiana's Greg Sell placed first in the shot and discus to earn throwing MVP and Mineral Ridge's Levi Leigh placed first in the 110 hurdles and second in the 300 hurdles to win hurdling MVP. Leigh also won the long jump to share jumping MVP with McDonald's Cory Grombacher, who won the high jump.
Martin Luther King's Brandon Tulliver was sprint MVP after winning the 100 and 200.
On the girls side, South Range's Andra Sanders won the 1600 and 3200 to take home distance MVP, while Western Reserve's Alex Rathburn won the shot and discus to earn throwing MVP.
Lordstown's Amanda Kistler finished first in the 400, second in the 200 and third in the 100 to win sprint MVP. Lordstown's Samantha Kistler won the 100 hurdles and finished second in the 300 hurdles to share hurdling MVP with Mineral Ridge's Abbey Kiger, who was first in the 300 hurdles and second in the 100 hurdles. Samantha Kistler also won the long jump to share jumping MVP with Western Reserve's Lainey Kekic, who won the high jump.
South Range won the boys team title and Mineral Ridge won the girls title.
Liberty Invitational
LIBERTY -- Mathews senior Tara Ford placed first in four events to win MVP honors, while Hubbard's Rachel Crafton won both hurdling events to lead the Eagles to the team title in the Liberty Invitational.
Ford won the 400, 800, high jump and long jump.
On the boys side, Liberty's Aaron Pollack won the 800, 1600, 3200 and was a member of the winning 4x400 relay to earn MVP as the Leopards finished second to Warren Harding for the team title.
Ben Provitt won the 100 and 200 and was a member of two winning relays for the Raiders.
