Man sentenced for molestation of girl

SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) -- A man convicted of molesting and abusing a young girl for six years was sentenced to 40 to 80 years in prison.
Somerset County judge John M. Cascio on Friday also ordered Arthur Bergamasco, 46, of West Newton, to have no contact with the girl or anyone under 18 and to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law when he is released from prison.
A jury convicted Bergamasco in January of rape, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and other counts. The girl told police that Bergamasco fondled her starting in 1997, when she was about 10, and later raped her, authorities said.
In October, Bergamasco had pleaded guilty to rape and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, but he later withdrew the plea and went to trial.
