Mike Kerr, a registered paramedic, firefighter and instructor for St. Elizabeth's Regional Learning Center for Cardiac Life Support, will teach the following classes:
Heartsaver First Aid Course: 1-4 p.m. May 16, St. Elizabeth's Boardman Campus, Azalea Room C. The first aid class covers topics such as controlling bleeding, caring for burns, and how to respond to allergic reactions, seizures, amputations, hot and cold emergencies, shock, poisonings, insect bites and bee stings. Each participant will receive a first aid book and a two-year certification card. The program is open to the public and the fee is a non-refundable $35. To register, call (330) 480-3045.
Heartsaver CPR Class: 5:30-8:30 p.m. June 7, Hubbard Library. The program will cover CPR for adults, children and infants. It includes information on poison prevention, rescue breathing, obstructed airway and child issues. An information booklet and poison stickers will be available to participants. The program is open to the public for a non-refundable fee of $35. This class is for laypersons and space is limited. To register, call (330) 480-3045.
Nurses training
BOARDMAN -- The Licensed Practical Nurse Association, Division 3 of Mahoning and Trumbull Counties, will meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at The Greenbrier Nursing Facility, 8064 South Ave. The program, "End of Life Issues in Critical Care," will be presented by Dr. Rebecca S. Bailey. This offering has been approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing for 1.8 contact hours of which 0 contact hours are approved for Category A through the OBN Approver Unit at the Licensed Practical Nurse Association of Ohio. All Licensed Practical Nurses as well as Registered Nurses may attend. The cost for members of the organization is $3, non-members $5. Hypnosis session
YOUNGSTOWN -- The American Lung Association of Ohio will hold its next hypnosis session Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in the Mill Creek Room on the second floor by the cafeteria. Don Mannarion will conduct the sessions, which will begin at noon for the stop smoking and at 1 for weight loss.
Advanced registrations are required. The fee for each session is $50 and includes the group hypnosis session, an audio cassette or CD for home relaxation and one year of free reinforcement.

Genetic links
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Learn more about the connection between genetics and cancer from an expert in cancer genetics counseling.
Darcy L. Thull will discuss how genetic testing can be used to identify families at highest risk for developing cancer at 6:30 p.m. Monday in dining room #3 of the North Campus Jameson Hospital, 1211 Wilmington Ave.
Thull is a certified genetic counselor with the cancer genetics program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. To register for the free discussion, call (724) 654-8370.

Breast cancer
LIBERTY -- Forum Health Cancer CareCenters and Department of Medical Education will offer a program on what's new in breast cancer from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn Metroplex.
Registration begins at 5:30 p.m.
Although the program is free, reservations are required by calling (800) 842-9727. Deadline is Wednesday.
